Op-ed: Teabag protesters should ask: Am I being duped by Fox News?
In reading and viewing the pictures of these ‘Tea bag’ protests thanks to MediaMatters.org, they cite, "Fox News is associating itself in advance with whatever rhetoric emanates at the upcoming events." And they would be correct.
As a writer, by witnessing these protests spirited on by Fox News, they have lost their right to call themselves journalists. True journalism is covering an issue and not being the instigator or where one associates itself with any protest against the government.
In journalism, one covers the story and DOES NOT become the story. A journalist does not interject themselves into the mix period.
Glenn Beck with his ‘9/12’ movement has ceased to be an on-air journalist (not that I ever believed he had the right to call himself that), but is a one man PAC.
In as much as on-air journalists from MSNBC have railed against former President Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney, you did not see Keith Olbermann or Rachel Maddow for that matter organizing protests against the former administration. They cited their opinions during the previous administration and that was all. If any viewer based upon what they opined wished to organize a protest, it was done independently and that is the way it should be.
They both have at times disagreed with President Barack Obama, but you do not see them saying to their viewers “Take to the streets†The both of them realize their words have power and never should they cross the line where violence can occur.
When one sees these protests on television or covered via the Internet, those who take part in them (if they are of sound mind) should ask: Is this anger at the government truly coming from me or am I being used by a large corporation such as Fox News? Basically, am I being duped?
Fox News has been known to be the mouth piece for the Republican Party and the conservative movement and with the election of President Barack Obama has done everything in their power to undermine his presidency. Even the NY Post which is also owned by Rupert Murdoch ran that cartoon of an ape being shot, which could have led some nut-job to assassinate our president. While they issued an apology, still the damage was done. You cannot un-ring that bell.
According to MediaMatters.org, "Several Fox News hosts will be broadcasting their shows from the protests and have encouraged viewers to attend them. For example, Glenn Beck has implored his viewers: "If you can't make the one in San Antonio, please go to the one with Neil or with Sean in Atlanta, that's supposed to be great, Greta is in Washington, D.C. Just get out and let your face be seen."
Again, this is a clear example proving that Fox News is no longer a news outlet, but an organization rallying their viewers to confront the government. Should they have their FCC license pulled? If they are inciting those to riot against their government where innocent people can be hurt, I would say so.
Fox News always cites itself as being patriotic in support of our troops, yet they fail to understand that our tax money is used to support them through body armor and the medical benefits they so rightly deserve. At least then Senator Barack Obama voted for the G.I. Bill where now Senator John McCain did not.

Leave it to Fox "News".
The liberal press doesn't much care for the tea parties, and is complaining that Fox News is covering them.
Instead we are supposed to watch fluff pieces about the Obama dog, or about what our new first lady wearing no sleeves for the Easter Egg roll.
Which is journalism? Covering dissenters protesting government spending, or covering whatever Michelle Obama is or isn't wearing tonight?
"Covering dissenters protesting government spending"
They're not "covering" news they're instigating dissent
"So long as people understand that they are watching a political organization promoting their political agenda and don't confuse Foxnews with an actual news organization"
Exactly! I don't have much faith that regular fans of Foxnews recognise that fact.
That 30 second 'fluff piece' about the new "First Dog" started my day
I don't have much faith that regular fans of Foxnews recognise that fact.
I have NO faith that they do!
I was watching Fox Business after my post. On and off. There was an interview with the owner of Zazzle.com, which makes a lot of the tea party stuff. His company also handled the Obama for President merchandise.
There was a discussion about sales and trends, and how the tea party sales compared to Obama sales.
Just now, Fox Business was discussing the litigation (FOIA requests) against the Treasury and Federal Reserve. It was a discussion about how these agencies are fighting very hard to prevent disclosure of information which was promised in testimony before Congress.
Fox won a FOIA suit against the Treasury, Bloomberg lost. Fox has been discussing banks with problems giving money back. Last night the CEO of a bank that couldn't return TARP money to the Treasury unless they agreed to pay an effective 60% interest rate. It was interesting.
NBC news covered the Obama dog and what Michelle wore (no sleeves, I guess it was what she didn't wear) during the Easter Egg roll.
Which provides me more information? Which is journalism? Does NBC disclose it's owner's (GE) CEO is advising Obama on economics? After driving anyone who invested in GE to the poorhouse. For some reason, NBC which is in Obama's pocket isn't covering the tea parties. I wonder, why Media Matters isn't concerned about compromised journalism at NBC?
Chris Matthews has a school girl crush on Barack. Yet somehow he reports hard news. He wouldn't qualify as a journalist at a middle school paper, yet at MSNBC he is a big guy.
So yeah, tell me about journalism. I watch the various news media, I read them daily, and Fox News is doing a great job.
Of course I could just read what Media Matters says about Fox and parrot it. However that wouldn't be fair to anyone, myself or Fox.
Every night, I record on my DVR the CBS Evening News and the NBC Nightly news. Both have given extensive coverage to the Obama dog of late. No coverage to taxpayer dissent. No coverage to anything negative about our administration. Just simple adoration of the Obama family. Maybe the names should reflect what they cover.
Katie Couric's I love Barack half hour love in.
NBC's we are in the tank for the administration and will only report what the DNC approves.
Somehow Media Matters has missed the above descriptions of the network news. I wonder why. Could there be some bias at Media Matters?
