NEW YORK -- Samuel Wurzelbacher, the Ohio man hailed as "Joe the Plumber" by Republican John McCain's presidential campaign last year, said he believes gays are "queer" and said he won't allow them near his children.

Nevertheless, Wurzelbacher said the decision about whether to allow same-sex couples to marry should be left to states.

"People don't understand the dictionary - it's called queer," Wurzelbacher told Christianity Today in an interview published this week. "Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do - what man and woman are for."

He added, "I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they're people, and they're going to do their thing."

Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, a national gay rights organization based in Washington, dismissed Wurzelbacher's comments.

"It would matter if Joe the Plumber mattered," Solmonese said. "One thing among many things we learned in the 2008 campaign is that he doesn't." (me:  AMEN!  Why is anyone even listening to him anymore?)

I wonder why both of their addresses and the attorney address is listed as Arizona? That over 2000 miles away. You have to live in Ohio in order to get a divorce here.

Joe probably didn't have a new permanent address, so she used his then-existing home address. At that point, he could have moved to Ohio, but was staying with a friend or something. I also noticed a reference to "battered women." I wonder if there was a reason for that.

I don't know. I moved from Toledo, Oh. to near Columbus, Oh. and had to wait 3 months before I could file. Then I had to have an Ohio address. If I remember correctly, you have to live here for 6 months. Plus having an out-of-state attorney. I don't know if something messed up or what. But the attorney address. Toledo, Az? I know where Lewis Ave in Toledo, Oh. is. I lived one block away from it.

Hi to you and thanks for the welcome :-)

Here is what I need explained...well, first, maybe I have figured it out...but maybe I am way off. It seems that gays are allowed to call themselves "queer" but heterosexuals are not allowed to call them that. Is that right?

Is it kind of like the "N" word for black people. They are allowed to use it when referencing one another but others that are not black cannot use it to reference them.

But really, the question is that why does anyone really care what Joe the plumber says or does? Seriously, it seems like the left is so stuck on Joe the plumber and Sarah Palin (or Bristol Palin). The election is over and it's time to move on.

Joe the plumber is NOT the only person in America who feels that way about gays. For instance, many people don't like Adam Lambert on American Idol because he is (supposedly) gay. I don't know this for fact, but people seem to think he is...so they don't think he should even be on the show. I find that ridiculous.

It seems that we are creating a super-sensitive society. What ever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"???

I don't want you to think that I am being a smart alec or anything...sometimes it is hard to interpret the tone of which the post is intended...I am merely curious about it. I am not upset or angry just don't understand how a gay group can refer to themselves as queer but then others are offended by the term. Seems a little silly, really.

I don't know, but I think his idea that his kids will never be around Gays is the problem. Not the Q word.
Heck, way back when I rode Dinosaurs to school, we had a gay couple in our school. Is he going to ask teachers if they are gay? Police, firefighters, postal people, Dr.s, nurses, Dentist?
He's an idiot.

I agree that it's pretty amazing that Joe the Plumber is still in the news.
