Why did this boy think he was being "bullied" instead of being assaulted?  Why do people feel that ganging up on teens who are gay (not just calling someone "gay" who isnt)  .. is being bullied instead of the act being considered a hate crime?  Why are people (even the victims themselves)  minimizing these crimes?  In this particular case (story below) I'm glad to see law enforcement was notified and the appropriate action was taken.

TAMPA, Fla. — Authorities say four teens have been charged with the sexual battery of a fellow member of their flag football team in a locker room at their Tampa area middle school.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened on April 30.

Two of the suspects allegedly held the 13-year-old victim down to the ground while the other two sexually battered him with a broom handle and a hockey stick at the Walker Middle School in Odessa.

A school district spokesman says the victim came forward on Tuesday, claiming he'd been bullied. They sat the students down, and law enforcement was notified after details of the assault were revealed.

The four students have been charged with sexual battery and false imprisonment.
