Do you agree with Carter?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/15/AR2009091503689.html

Former president Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that he believes race is at the core of much of the opposition to President Obama.

"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African American," Carter told NBC in an interview. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that shared the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African Americans"

Continued Carter: "And that racism inclination still exists. . . . It's an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply."

The 39th president also predicted that Obama will be able to "triumph over the racist attitude that is the basis for the negative environment that we see so vividly demonstrated in public affairs in recent days."

See the following videos. I've never heard so much ignorance. Most don't appear to know why or what they're protesting & can't back-up the 'catch phrases' they're parroting. These people vote! Now that's scary.....

Welcome to the board! :)

~When Bush was in office, the radical left always portrayed Bush as a "chimp". Nobody seemed to have a problem with that. Hmmm.....~

Well, to be fair, some did have a problem with that, but let's be clear - there's a long history of racial slurs in re: to black people and primates. Therein lies the difference.

~I wonder what the radical left would say...~

As I'm not familiar with your stances, etc., are you suggesting that Rush is part of the radical right?

~ if a black boy was beaten to a pulp by a bunch of white kids on a bus and nobody did anything to help him....not even the bus driver. It would, without a doubt, be charged as a hate crime.~

Out of curiosity, are children in the US ever charged with hate crimes? Could you show me some examples?

~Just because somebody doesn't agree with Obama does not make them racist.~

I think everyone on the board is in agreement with that statement. Certainly no argument from me. However, some of the ferocious complaints have been from those who don't even try to hide their racism. Have you seen some of the signs protestors carried in D.C. this past weekend?

Things like that happened during the Bush admin. I don't think I recall Limbaugh holding Bush responsible. In fact I remember quite

There is a difference between telling someone you don't believe him and yelling out, "You lie!" on the floor while the person is giving a speech. It has to do with respect. I can tell you, my kids would get in serious trouble if they yelled that out in class while their teacher was talking, even if the teacher was incorrect. Joe Wilson is an adult, in his 60's and helping to run this country. I have higher expectations of him than of my children, as decorum goes.

"Carter just needs to be correct before he falsely accuses everyone of being a racist if we don't like Obama"

Carter did not accuse everyone of being racist that didn't like or disagreed with Obama. This is what he said..............

My friend's a democrat & we remain friends. She seems less inclined, lately, to forward any & everything she's received on to me. TG! I hate to bite my tongue when I have an opinion.

"I don't think everyone who disagrees with Obama is racist, but I think there is a percentage of people that disagree with him simply because they are."

Agreed!

"People can defend Wilson as being non-racist, but his past actions beg to differ."

Interesting that you tell us what doesn't cause your distrust, but you don't elaborate on what does.

Welcome to In The News.

It bothers me to hear 'the race card' comments.
