Do you agree with Carter?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/15/AR2009091503689.html

Former president Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that he believes race is at the core of much of the opposition to President Obama.

"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African American," Carter told NBC in an interview. "I live in the South, and I've seen the South come a long way, and I've seen the rest of the country that shared the South's attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African Americans"

Continued Carter: "And that racism inclination still exists. . . . It's an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply."

The 39th president also predicted that Obama will be able to "triumph over the racist attitude that is the basis for the negative environment that we see so vividly demonstrated in public affairs in recent days."

See the following videos. I've never heard so much ignorance. Most don't appear to know why or what they're protesting & can't back-up the 'catch phrases' they're parroting. These people vote! Now that's scary.....

Why do you believe we are going to have government run healthcare? From everything I'd heard and read we'll all be able to keep our private or employer-based healthcare if we want. I haven't read one thing that says anyone will be forced to obtain government sponsored healthcare.

You obviously have healthcare insurance, as do I. But I'm NOT so

Good point, Jean. The obnoxious and rude behavior is inciteful and gives some people (racists, perhaps) the idea that they maybe have a larger following than they actually do.

Like I mentioned earlier, I spend time on Topix, which has little or no monitoring, so people don't hold back much in their posts. Trolls aside, there is a growing number of outspoken and hateful people who seem frustrated and angry and will worm their way around the idea of "racist", but the ugly truth is that's where their anger and frustration comes from. More than ever they have a rage in them, and I can see that rage turning violent at some point.

"Last but not least, bigots can be found in all shapes, sizes, ages, and colors."

Definitely. No one has said only certain races are racist. There was an article in the Washington Post about racism, both directed at Obama and from Kanye West, in part that Kanye would not have done what he did if Taylor Swift had been black (or a man, maybe?). She was a powerless young kid. When you come down to it, a lot of it is about power and control and wanting to feel it. I've read a few books lately about Germans in power or who cooperated with the Nazis during WWII and that's the overwhelming feeling I get--people want to feel in control and feel better about themselves by putting down others. It's the same with bigots the world round.

Yeah, it's the rage, not at the issues being addressed but the overall hatred of Obama that's scary. If you read any message board where people can be anonymous, there's just this seething rage that seems like it's about to explode.

"Why do you believe we are going to have government run healthcare?"

"“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.” Barack Obama

BO said he wants this, and is trying to get it. I am not surprised in the least.

" From everything I'd heard and read we'll all be able to keep our private or employer-based healthcare if we want. I haven't read one thing that says anyone will be forced to obtain government sponsored healthcare."

Until he manages to get rid of it, which he says is his ultimate goal.

"You obviously have healthcare insurance, as do I. But I'm NOT so stupid as to believe that's forever. I could lose my job tomorrow."

That happened to me years ago. When my COBRA ran out, I obtained private insurance, and said I would never again be dependent upon an employer for health coverage.

" I could become too ill to work."

We cover the disabled here in my state.

" My employer might decide they can't afford to carry coverage on me anymore. "

Precisely why I think people should think twice about employer-offered health insurance.

" I certainly couldn't afford the full burden of what my insurance would cost."

How will you pay the premiums for this government program BO wants to put in place? If you can not pay them, who will?

Just because it works for YOU, doesn't mean it works for everyone. You seem to be overlooking the millions who can't afford private insurance. You can. Good for you. Be grateful you can afford it. Be grateful you aren't working at McDonald's or waitressing at a restaurant or driving a school bus or cashiering at the grocery store or mowing lawns or doing many of the millions of job Americans do that hardly pay enough as it is, much less pay enough for what insurance companies charge.

"Take it back from what? A black man? Is that what you're REALLY saying, because I was unaware that the White House had gone anywhere. I didn't know we had to TAKE IT BACK, as though it's been overrun or invaded.

Please clarify this statement because I'm really curious as to what "take it back" means."

If this statement is a problem for you, you need to discuss it with the person who said it. His name is Barack Obama.
