On Sunday, a blogger at The Political Carnival noticed a user-generated poll on Facebook that asked, "Should Obama be killed?" The blogger wrote about the poll, then called the Secret Service to alert them to it.
A day later, Facebook has taken down the poll, and the Secret Service is looking into the matter, the Associated Press reports:
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating an online survey that asked whether people thought President Barack Obama should be assassinated, officials said Monday. The choices were: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care.
The poll, posted Saturday on Facebook, was taken off the popular social networking site quickly after company officials were alerted to its existence.
A Facebook official said the question was created not by the company but by an independent person using an add-on application that has been suspended from the site.
"The third-party application that enabled an individual user to create the offensive poll was brought to our attention this morning," said Barry Schnitt, Facebook's spokesman for policy.
Because the application was disabled, the responses to the nonscientific polls are not available.
"We're working with the U.S. Secret Service, but they'll need to provide any details of their investigation," Schnitt said.
"We are aware of , and we will take the appropriate investigative steps," said Darrin Blackford, a Secret Service spokesman. "We take these things seriously."

"Tragically, I have come to accept that, for some, there is no desire at all to fix what's broken, but to solely maintain the old status quo of virulent self-interest at the cost of the rest of the country and its people."
Elected officials should have term limits IMO. We need fresh blood, some idealists,
***"I disagreed with many of his policies... privatising SS, pre-emptive war.... Thought he wasn't qualified to be Pres. plus he was an embarrassment IMO. Though I never wished him dead."***
EXACTLY! I never for a moment wished him dead, either. That violent reaction is what scares me about what's going on now with President Obama. This is a serious escalation. I hope the Secret Service is ready and has extra security in place, is all I can say! :O

I'm sure there were fringe people on the Left who
But the lunatics, the haters, the people that can be so easily manipulated by the radio and print talking heads.....those people are a definite threat, and will continue to be as time goes forward. Just my thoughts on things for what they're worth.
ITA.
I disagreed with many of his policies... privatising SS, pre-emptive war.... Thought he wasn't qualified to be Pres.
And how many people look at you like you have 2 heads when you mention the word Kennedy and conspiracy in the same sentence?
I think our government is full of conspiracy, on both sides of the political fence. Washington is like another planet.
I said a lot of negative things about Bush, but I never wished for his death. I would never wish for any president's death. The death of a sitting president is a terrible blow to a country. It creates anxiety and mistrust among citizens and completely upends the political system as a vice president moves forward to take over.
Bush got his share of being made fun of and being disrespected, but it lacked the serious hate and rage that I feel is being directed at Obama.
I hear ya! I really disliked Reagan intensively, but I was positively horrified that someone tried to kill him.
