I shared this in an "author unknown" way with a couple of folks. It struck such a resonant cord, they would like to see it submitted as a guest editorial to our local paper. So I wanted to let you know, if you were interested, our local paper is http://www.theunion.com/
I wanted to email you through your profile but couldn't.
They might let you submit it as an anonymous contributor if you wanted to remain nameless. Just wanted to let you know about the encouragement your wise words were recieving out in the cyber world.

I think the idea that anyone is in favor of raising taxes is ludicrous. No one, regardless of their political influence, enjoys having money stolen from their paycheck each week, filling out an income tax return every year, or knowing that the money the government takes from them is used foolishly and often wasted.
I think what it comes down to is the differences in what "liberals" and "conservatives" (Lord, how I've come to dispise those terms) view HOW taxes are spent.
One side believes taxes should used for war, weapons, to protect the wealthy, and to make sure Washington is happy and well-fed. They believe in using the collective resources to make more money.
The other side believes, since the money came from the taxpayer, it should come back to the taxpayer in some overall effort to improve the lives of the taxpayer - education, healthcare, etc.
It would be amusing if it wasn't so sad AND if it wasn't part of MY money involved. For 8 years our leaders tossed money around like a baby with a box of Cheerios. For 8 years billions of dollars funded the Iraq War - a war we now know was completely and utterly of no value to the U.S. other than the money made from it on Wall Street. For 8 years the infrastructure of the U.S. and its people did without while OUR hard-earned money paid U.S. contracting firms to rebuild a country we destroyed for no reason. At one time there were 100,000 contract companies in Iraq. In NO other war has the number of civilian contract companies been as great.
I ask you - where were the complaints? Oh, there WERE complaints, but anyone who made one was labeled UNAmerican, unpatriotic or worse. And while anyone with stock in GE, Halliburton, Bechtel, General Dynamics, Honeywell, or any of the contracting companies made a small fortune, the taxpayer footed the bill.
So, IN REALITY, think of YOUR tax dollars diverted from YOUR pocket through Washington, to the contract company and ending up in the bank accounts of the wealthy - who THEN took that money and offshored it in places like The Isle of Man so that THEY wouldn't have to contribute to the circle of tax paying in the U.S.
And did any of those companies take that money and improve life for Americans - like adding desperately needed jobs to the country? No, in fact many of them jumped on the offshore bandwagon and hired out manufacturing and IT work to people in other countries.
Talk about thievery and deception? Talk about being angry about the way taxes are spent? Those of us who ARE NOT rich should be taking to streets with clubs and axes. We should be demanding an accounting of the money that was stolen from us for a war based solely on profit. That money should be returned to us.
But nooooooo. What do we complain about? The cost of healthcare for our OWN people, our OWN taxpayers, the working class, those folks who bust their butts everyday keeping big-ass (sorry, couldn't help myself) corporations like GE and Honeywell operating. Healthcare for Americans. THAT'S what we complain about. Once again, big business (insurance companies) is dictating OUR future and what WE get for our money.
It's OK when the conglomerately rich steal from us; but for God's sake don't let the little people do it. Whatever you do, don't let those peon tax-payers get their hands on anything they've contributed to.
So smile and bend over as you keep paying those taxes. Liberal or conservative, if you're an average working class American you've already been screwed by your government a thousand times over. And all we do is bicker amongst ourselves while above us the gods rule in favor of themselves.

Thank you so much!!! How cool to find out that you shared my thoughts and others liked them.
