so give Chicago the Olympic Games.
"We need all of our children to be exposed to the Olympic ideals that athletes from around the world represent, particularly this time in our nation’s history, where athletics is becoming more of a fleeting opportunity. Funds dry up so it becomes harder for kids to engage in sports, to learn how to swim, to even ride a bike. When we’re seeing rates of childhood obesity increase, it is so important for us to raise up the platform of fitness and competition and fair play; to teach kids to cheer on the victors and empathize with those in defeat, but most importantly, to recognize that all the hard work that is required to do something special."

I agree with her 1,000%. When I was in school, we had maybe 2 kids in our class that would be considered obese. Maybe 2 kids that, today, would be ADHD. We had two 15 minute recesses. One 45 minute recess. We came home did our home work, then out the door we went.
We played baseball, football, dodge ball, tag. We didn't come in till the sun went down. We ate home cooked meals. Pepsi was a treat. Ice cream was only once in a great while. Except when we went to my Aunts house in the summer. Then it was home made.
We had to work on the farm. We had to work in the garden. The first job I had was cleaning the gutters in the barn. Every thing else was a step up. As soon as my foot reached the pedal, I was driving a tractor. Even as a teen the only TV I watched was "Star Trek." Maybe Ed Sullivan if there was a "cool" group on there.
Kids today sit. They sit in the class room. They walk maybe 50 feet to their front door. Then come in raid the fridge for a soda, bag of chips, snack cakes or gummie bears. Then plop down in front of the TV to play their games or plop down in front of the computer to check their latest message on My Space. They don't get any exercise. Our kids are obese.
Obesity is a world-wide problem, not just in the USA.

That may be so. But I live in the USA.
The one thing that drive me crazy, I live in an apt. complex. The buses pick the children up. Every single day, a lot of parents are sitting in their cars either wait for their kids or waiting for the bus. The bus stop is maybe 200 feet from the furthest apt. building. If it were pouring down rain or ice and snow, maybe I could understand.
We lived right next door to our school. The playground was in our back yard. My kids always took the long way to school. They very rarely walked thru the yard.
Parents need to start setting examples for their children. My children were never allowed to just sit in front of the TV. We spent a lot of time outside. Weather permitting.
Your link didn't work but I did find your exact thoughts on the patriotic Michelle Malkin's site with the same quote. Perhaps Malkin will suggest that Michelle Obama's patriotism and loyalty should be thoroughly investigated, as well as many member of Congress, for suggesting that American children, who are getting more obese, and less active, could use role models who are active and successful as Olympic athletes. Gasp.
So glad you're happy about the US being turned down. God forbid you hope for anything good for America. Boo to providing health care to children, boo to providing them role models to be active and healthy. Once you're born, you're on your own.
Yep, Michelle got it from a White House site. We've had plenty of successful Olympic athletes, along with plenty caught using dope (hope that isn't the sort of role model our FLOTUS had in mind). Obesity still grows (pardon the pun.)
Congratulations to Rio, and to the IOC for doing the right thing.
"The Obama Administration has created a brand new White House website, and it's possible that the page you were looking for has been moved."
Yep, they felt the need to create a new website quickly.
Oh, for Pete's sake, only half your link was hyperlinked in the OP. Nobody moved anything.
