so give Chicago the Olympic Games.

"We need all of our children to be exposed to the Olympic ideals that athletes from around the world represent, particularly this time in our nation’s history, where athletics is becoming more of a fleeting opportunity. Funds dry up so it becomes harder for kids to engage in sports, to learn how to swim, to even ride a bike. When we’re seeing rates of childhood obesity increase, it is so important for us to raise up the platform of fitness and competition and fair play; to teach kids to cheer on the victors and empathize with those in defeat, but most importantly, to recognize that all the hard work that is required to do something special."

Exactly. They preach the patriotism message but don't follow it. You'd think people who could buy into the WMD war would understand poetic license better with Michelle Obama's speech.

"Yeah, make sure to let Michelle Malkin know that Michelle Obama and her father had a John/McKenzie Phillips like relationship. "

If you have personal knowledge of this, I'd encourage you to do so. But my guess is Oprah would do better with that subject material.

"Or maybe we can cut her some slack and let it go w/ her remembering her favorite Olympians, possibly being off by when it happened."

It really doesn't matter what you or I think. What mattered was what the IOC thought. Perhaps suggest that when you are appearing in front of such a group it would help to present a more plausible story.

"You know she didn't say YOUR children were fat - nice misleading thread title. You may dispute the fact that childhood obesity rates have risen in the past decade - but you would be wrong. Michelle Obama, much as it may disappoint you, was correct. In fact, according to the American Medical Association those rates have quadrupled in the past 30 years. Guess now you will be accusing the AMA of being a 'liberal spin machine'?"

Never said I disputed it .... I question that it was a reason why the US should get an Olympic Games. I note the lack of an Olympic Games in the US didn't prevent her from experiencing those wonderful moments watching Olga, Nadia and Carl.

Apparently, the IOC loved her. I posted the link for it. But, they loved Brazil's story more and more power to Brazil. If you have a reliable source that says they didn't give it to the US BECAUSE of her story, I'd love to read it.:-) Proof, so to speak, to back up your assertion that the IOC found her story so offensively incorrect that they voted against the US as a result.

"Talk is cheap ...."

Yep. Any proof that the IOC didn't give the Olympics to the US because of Michelle Obama's apparent gaffe, in your eyes, about Carl Lewis?

It little matters why the IOC voted for Brazil over Chicago - isn't it enough to be happy for Rio? How many cities were in competition? Only one winner - no point in beleaguering the point is there? Unless someone has another agenda? Sounds like a bit of a stretch to post 'Michelle Obama says kids are fat...' just to find another reason to slam the Obama's. Makes me wonder at the agenda behind the point of starting a thread. But then again, maybe not.

precisely - which may explain why so many posters blather on and on and on about silly details that in the end mean nothing.

"Sounds like a bit of a stretch"

You mean the stretch from Michelle Obama's speaking to the IOC and the IOC giving the bid to Brazil to Michelle Obama's speech causing the IOC to give the bid to Brazil because they noticed her mention of Carl Lewis didn't seem timely, despite the IOC chair saying Michelle impressed him with her heartfelt message?

It was a gaffe? I thought she was just confused. Talk remains cheap.

BTW, if she wishes to put forth Olympians as role models she really ought to pick ones that weren't drug users.
