6 Year Old Alone In Hot Air Balloon

I have MSNBC on in the background right now.  They are following a KUSA news feed of helium-filled experimental balloon that is loose over Colorado with a lone 6 year old boy inside.  The balloon is spinning and tilting and traveling right now at about 6000 to 8500 feet at 20 to 25 mph.  I know I shouldn't watch, but this has just grabbed my attention.  I hope that authorities with a knowledge of balloons can figure out how to rescue this little child.  The balloon is capable of rising to 10,000  or more feet where it is cold and there is less oxygen for the child.   Experts are saying that they cannot use helicopters to get near the balloon for fear of sucking the balloon into the blades.   If this balloon hits the ground at that speed, the child will be seriously injured if not killed.  If you've got a minute, please say a prayer for that little boy, cold, scared and spinning/tilting in that balloon.

Wonder if they'll replace Jon and Kate soon? I think they should take kids away parents like these. What is that disease, Munchausen by proxy, where parents do anything to their children for attention?

I never got the whole Jon and Kate thing. Now to have the whole ugly divorce played out on TV! Oh, those poor kids. It's probably one of the worst things a person could go thru. This whole reality TV is just, just,..........don't even have a word for it.

Maybe if there were family members to take them in, and not split them up.

If to go into foster care, and possibly split up, I'd say no to the foster care alone.

I thought of the same comparison. Apparently, some people will do almost anything for the sake of attention. Doesn't help that we have popular media which is voyeuristic.

And shame on us collectively for being voyeurs! I have never watched any of the so-called "reality shows" because they embarrassed me. Felt dirty and sneaky, like spying on somebody in their most intimate or emotional moments.

Now we're seeing the unanticipated consequences of creating a monster.

She's no longer seeking our prayers anyway (see post #4, written days ago).

I do wish they would quit calling him "balloon boy". This is a little 6 year old kid. Their feeling are very easily hurt. It's not his fault his parents are media wh***'S.

Good point, although being called "balloon boy" is probably the least of what he'll go through with parents like that.

I'm wondering which network will first jump on a reality show with these parents, the Gosslings (is that Kate and Jon's name?) and Octomom on a deserted island.

I think Jon and Kate and Octomom would jump at the chance to be on a deserted Island. No screaming kids. Heck, yeah. These Heeney's, I don't know what to think about them.

New reality show: Parent's Behind Bars. See Bubba get a new girlfriend.
