Colo. sheriff calls balloon saga a hoax
He says ordeal was staged to generate publicity for a reality TV show

FORT COLLINS. Colo. - A sheriff said he was pursuing criminal charges in Colorado's "balloon boy " saga, which he described Sunday as a hoax to generate publicity for a reality TV show.

"It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt and we believe we have evidence at this point to indicate that this was a publicity stunt in hopes to better market themselves for a reality show," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters at a press conference.

Deputies searched the home of the boy's parents Saturday night, carrying away several boxes and a computer

This was obviously a hoax. The boy's father is a publicity monger; he's already been on a reality tv show, and made bids for other appearances on reality shows. He was/is desperate for attention.

I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I just hope that an innocent child and their parent's don't have to pay for what these jerks did. Now even more skepticism will be put on parents that really need the police to hunt for their missing child.

“Publicity monger” is the perfect term.

There is no missing child. You might want to learn more about this story before posting on this thread. Just an FYI.

~There is no missing child.~

Tess, that's part of her point.

The parents manufactured the incident to make it appear that their son was missing from the balloon (ie. whereabouts unknown, possibly harmed):

"There were fears the box compartment had separated from the main apparatus during its flight. Several people reported seeing something fall from the craft while it was in the air. With Falcon nowhere in sight, investigators frantically searched the ground along the balloon's path."

I agree with her that hopefully in future when a child is possibly in danger, their whereabouts not known, authorities and others won't be lax in re: to searching (thinking it another hoax).

Can you imagine if something actually does happen to one of their children in the future? I think law enforcement would take it seriously, or should, but few people would pay attention to the Amber alert and they need the average citizen to believe.

You might want to re-read my post. I was referring to IF ANOTHER child turns up missing, the police will waste precious time looking to see of they had been on TV before.

I know the little boy was found. I believe that in another post I said it was a publicity stunt. Way before it was found out.
