Cops: 2 Female Teachers Arrested for Fighting During School
Thursday, March 20, 2008
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two female middle school teachers were arrested Wednesday on charges they got into a fight in front of students, officials said.
Eighth grade teachers Tawana Horton, 30, and Cambrella Pinckney, 28, bumped into each other during a hallway class change Friday afternoon at St. Andrews Middle School and began fighting, according to a report by the Richland County sheriff's department.
The two teachers told an officer that they had an ongoing personal dispute, the report said.
The teachers were charged with disturbing schools and have been placed on administrative leave, deputies said.
"This occurred with students on the scene and they witnessed what happened," Richland School District 1 spokeswoman Karen York. "Teachers are looked at as role models. That doesn't set a good example."
Pinckney did not immediately return a message left at her home. A phone number for Horton could not be found. Deputies did not know if either of the women had attorneys.
York would not discuss if any disciplinary action had been taken against the teachers, but said officials are investigating the fight.
Possible punishments range from a letter of reprimand to firing, she said.
The two women have not returned to the school since the incident occurred, York said.
Horton taught at the school for one year, while Pinckney taught there for three years, York said.
I don't know how they do it where you work, but if I were to engage in physical fighting at my place of employment, I would be fired...period. And I don't even work with children.
How is it that these unprofessional, immature, out-of-control women are allowed to keep their job even for another second? There should no administrative leave, no letters of reprimand, nothing less than termination. And the offense should be noted in their personnel file so that future employers can see that this particular teacher has impulse and anger issues.
These are the people are children are supposed to look up to. When the adults can't even control themselves how do we expect the kids to?

I agree.
I guess I'm pretty old. When I was in Jr. High, there were 2 incidence's. On time a teacher got so P.O'ed at a kid, he yanked him out of the class and stuffed him in a locker. I saw the whole thing. Another time a teacher jumped over me and grabbed a student up by his collar and threw him outside. The teacher took off his jacket and was ready to fight the student. A bunch of other teachers came running and grabbed the teacher before he threw a punch.
Of course I went to school way back when teachers were allowed to whack kids with a paddle. I came very close to getting a whack. But the bell rang. I still never let the kid forget what happened. He was talking and I told him to be quiet. I was the one the teacher heard. The kid, grew up to be a State Highway Patrolman.

Me, too. I got paddled darn near every day in 5th grade...which shows you just how effective being paddled is. ;-)
