Is it any wonder our kids are out of control?
Police: Teachers Fight Over Man In Front Of Students

Posted: 5:04 pm EDT October 29, 2009Updated: 5:54 pm EDT October 29, 2009

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Police said a love letter on the social networking web site Facebook sparked an on-campus, profanity-laced fight between two teachers at Rex Hill Middle School in Rex. The altercation allegedly got so out of hand, an officer ended up arresting both instructors.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones spent the day in Clayton County and was able to obtain the police report that detailed the love triangle that erupted into fighting and cursing in front of students.

The school district didn’t have much to say about the altercation, but parents did.

“That’s outrageous. That’s outrageous,” said parent Robert Fisher.

Parents and students at Rex Middle School were stunned after learning that police arrested two teachers after both got into a heated fight in front of students.

“I mean, what example are you showing the kids? Because when the kids get into a fight, you’re ready to expel them,” said parent Felicia Lyons.

According to the police report, Shaka Cobb, 32, said she and a man who teaches at the school are expecting a child together. Cobb stated that she discovered a love letter from Ebony Smith, 25, on her baby’s father’s Facebook account over the weekend.

Cobb angrily responded back on Facebook, according to police, and when the two returned to school on Monday, a fight broke out on the eighth-grade hall.

There was cursing, punches were thrown and threats to put the love letter on a blackboard for all to see, according to the police report.

Children witnessed it all.

“Love triangles happen everywhere. But it shouldn’t happen at school. Not in front of the kids,” said Fisher.

The officer stated he felt compelled to arrest the teachers because the altercation happened in front of the students.

Some parents said there’s only one punishment for the teachers. “They should be terminated to be honest with you. Kids get kicked out so they should be terminated,” said Lyons.

The school district placed both teachers on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation.

Both teachers face disorderly conduct charges and Smith faces simple battery as witnesses described her as the aggressor.

I heard about the above story on the radio this morning and looked it up when I got here to work. I was surprised, however, to find THIS story, as well.

Cops: 2 Female Teachers Arrested for Fighting During School

Thursday, March 20, 2008

COLUMBIA, S.C. â€”  Two female middle school teachers were arrested Wednesday on charges they got into a fight in front of students, officials said.

Eighth grade teachers Tawana Horton, 30, and Cambrella Pinckney, 28, bumped into each other during a hallway class change Friday afternoon at St. Andrews Middle School and began fighting, according to a report by the Richland County sheriff's department.

The two teachers told an officer that they had an ongoing personal dispute, the report said.

The teachers were charged with disturbing schools and have been placed on administrative leave, deputies said.

"This occurred with students on the scene and they witnessed what happened," Richland School District 1 spokeswoman Karen York. "Teachers are looked at as role models. That doesn't set a good example."

Pinckney did not immediately return a message left at her home. A phone number for Horton could not be found. Deputies did not know if either of the women had attorneys.

York would not discuss if any disciplinary action had been taken against the teachers, but said officials are investigating the fight.

Possible punishments range from a letter of reprimand to firing, she said.

The two women have not returned to the school since the incident occurred, York said.

Horton taught at the school for one year, while Pinckney taught there for three years, York said.

I don't know how they do it where you work, but if I were to engage in physical fighting at my place of employment, I would be fired...period. And I don't even work with children.

How is it that these unprofessional, immature, out-of-control women are allowed to keep their job even for another second? There should no administrative leave, no letters of reprimand, nothing less than termination. And the offense should be noted in their personnel file so that future employers can see that this particular teacher has impulse and anger issues.

These are the people are children are supposed to look up to. When the adults can't even control themselves how do we expect the kids to?

I agree with you. They should be terminated...immediately. If it's good enough for the kids, it's good enough for the teachers.

I guess I'm pretty old. When I was in Jr. High, there were 2 incidence's. On time a teacher got so P.O'ed at a kid, he yanked him out of the class and stuffed him in a locker. I saw the whole thing. Another time a teacher jumped over me and grabbed a student up by his collar and threw him outside. The teacher took off his jacket and was ready to fight the student. A bunch of other teachers came running and grabbed the teacher before he threw a punch.

Of course I went to school way back when teachers were allowed to whack kids with a paddle. I came very close to getting a whack. But the bell rang. I still never let the kid forget what happened. He was talking and I told him to be quiet. I was the one the teacher heard. The kid, grew up to be a State Highway Patrolman.

Me, too. I got paddled darn near every day in 5th grade...which shows you just how effective being paddled is. ;-)

I agree 110%. I can't imagine any adult actually fighting over something so silly, but especially in front of children. Why aren't they fired? It this what our tax dollars pay for? Absolutely NOT!!

The only ones allowed to spank us were the Principal or the Vice Principal, and then ONLY if the parent was present.

Way back in the 60's, (the late 60's) when I was in HS, we had a husband come in looking for a teacher that was running around with his wife. It was rumored he was carrying a gun. The teacher took off, out another door and never came back. We also had a parent come into the school looking for a kid. He was screaming in the halls, calling out the kid. He had just found out his daughter had gone to Woodstock with this kid. We also had a teacher knock-up a student. A woman teacher that ran off with another girl. We had a gay couple(teachers) and all this in a country school. LOL.
