The Dr. that says this child is "stoned" and negates the fact that he was wasting away on THIRTEEN pharmaceuticals before, is an idiot!

All the more reason to research it properly and look for proper delivery systems. Also, smoking, is not the only delivery system at this point, as noted in the original post.

***Until scientist can prove to me with out a doubt that marijuana and/or drugs aren't responsible for SOME of these problems with autism, I wouldn't want my grandson anywhere near the stuff. ***

Which they can't do without research. Noone is

Autism is an epidemic. I have no idea why it's happening but I have often wondered about the marijuana connection. My late husband smoked it. Did other drugs. My son has had his share of problems. My son and his ex both used. Until they found out she was expecting. I'd be lying if it hasn't crossed my mind.

I never wanted anything to do with the stuff. And yes I know a family that has 2 boy's that have been diagnosed as autistic. Neither parent used anything. But both grandfathers were known to "smoke", started in their teens. I do not buy the vaccine debate. I know someone who has a child that wasn't vaccinated until he was 5 yrs. old, but was definitely autistic.

I just meant I wouldn't my grandson using marijuana the way this mother uses it. It's already done enough damage in my family. Drug addicted Late husband, drug addicted son, that's enough for me.

As far as marijuana causing autism...nobody knows yet.

That being said, if the mother of this autistic child smoked marijuana while pregnant (or up until conception) it is highly likely she did other drugs too. And who knows....maybe drug use affects the semen as well. It could have been the father's drug use.

I know some research has suggested that older men carry a higher risk of having autistic children. Who knows how drugs or old age affect the quality of the semen in men?

I've sometimes wondered the same thing, but we also have to remember that during the last 40 or 50 years we all (including pregnant women) have been exposed to a lot more chemicals, air pollution, water pollution, food additives, etc. than ever before.

I tend to believe that many of the rising rates of diseases (cancer, for example) have been because of automobile emissions. We breath this air every single day of our lives; and despite efforts to clean the air, it's still there in varying degrees.

Rest assured that whatever is causing our ills the true answer would never be revealed to us. Wouldn't it be convenient for the government to blame austism on pot smoking instead of

I don't know...I don't know. There has to be a common thread somewhere. For it to suddenly become so prevalent, there has to be something causing it. Just like bi-polar. I never heard of it before. Until my neighbor moved next to me, back in 92. The first time she spent any time with my youngest son she said he was bi-polar. She pointed out so many things. At first I was in complete denial. When she told me she was bi-polar, the pieces finally fit.

I remember a girl I went to school with. By today's standards she was probably Autistic. We just thought she was very shy and had a speech problem.

This is a misconception. Plenty of people who use marijuana never try other drugs, or even alchohol or tobacco. The whole "gateway theory" regarding marijuana is a fallacy.

"exposed to a lot more chemicals, air pollution, water pollution, food additives, etc"

Might I add even mother's milk is contaminated with chemicals. Fish contain chemicals we've thrown in the oceans. The poor animals that are bred in the factory farms are fed & injected with substances nature never intended.

Ingesting a small amount of pot, to give someone an appetite,

Maybe it's better diagnosis. My partners grandmother was bipolar, but not diagnosed until her 40's, he in his early 20's. If his family hadn't been in denial, he would have been diagnosed at around 14 when he had his first suicidal depression. He was ALWAYS hyper, impulsive and "different." From birth, compared to his brother and cousins.

I do know that before my G'son was born that both used. Hard drugs and marijuana. I also know that there are things that could be pointed to as a probable cause. Abuse. Mom would smack baby in the mouth as early as 7 months. She'd place him in his bedroom and turn the TV on to babysit him all day. Squaller. If my son would clean the apt., she'd come home from work and throw garbage all over the house and dump a litter box on top. Air pollution. They both smoke. In a tiny one bedroom apt.

I tried to point out that there was a problem. G'son just wasn't doing things that other kids would do. But every time I tried, I was shot down. By the time he was 2 yrs old it was obvious. The Dr.s' were asking them about his talking.

I also know a lot of people who went from a casual use of marijuana to harder drugs.
