Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Tiger Woods has canceled plans to attend his own golf tournament in southern California because of injuries he suffered near his Florida home early Friday, the pro golfer said in a statement Monday.

"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week," Woods said of the Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, California. "I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there."

He also canceled a Tuesday news conference for the start of the tournament, which helps raise money for Tiger Woods Foundation programs.

Woods suffered minor injuries in a vehicle accident early Friday in his luxury neighborhood near Orlando, Florida, according to a police accident report.

State police in Florida said Monday an investigation of the single-vehicle crash "is ongoing and charges are pending."

The incident has ended Woods' golf appearances until next season, according to a statement posted on his Web site.

"Woods will not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action next year," the statement said.

The PGA Tour has ended for the year, but the first tournament of the 2010 season is just five weeks away. At least one other charity event is scheduled, but it is not clear if Woods had planned to attend.

The Chevron World Challenge will go on despite the absence of its host, said Greg McLaughlin, president of Woods' foundation.

"We support Tiger's decision and are confident the strong field and excellent course will provide an exciting week of competition at the Chevron World Challenge," McLaughlin said.

In a statement issued Sunday afternoon on his Web site, Woods offered no details of his wreck except to say he had cuts and bruises and was "pretty sore."

"This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me," he said. "I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again."

According to a police report, Woods pulled out of his driveway about 2:25 a.m. Friday in a 2009 Cadillac SUV and struck a fire hydrant, then a tree.

Authorities have said they don't have details on why Woods was driving away from his home at such an early hour, but a police report said the wreck was not alcohol-related.

State troopers have unsuccessfully asked three times to question him about the wreck, police said. Woods canceled the third scheduled interview on Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes told CNN.

"We have been informed by the Florida Highway Patrol that further discussion with them is both voluntary and optional," said Woods' agent Mark Steinberg, in a written statement. "Although Tiger realizes that there is a great deal of public curiosity, it has been conveyed to FHP that he simply has nothing more to add and wishes to protect the privacy of his family."

Under Florida law, Woods must show his license, registration and proof of insurance to police, but is not obligated to give a statement on the crash. His attorney Mark NeJame handed over the required documents to the troopers Sunday at Woods' home, Montes said.

Opinion: Tiger Woods is only human

NeJame told CNN he stood by Woods' statement and had no further comment.

"If we're unable to meet with him, we'll move on with our investigation," Montes said. But she called the delays "very unusual, because it's such a minor accident."

Last week, a story in the National Enquirer alleged that Woods has been seeing a New York nightclub hostess. The Associated Press contacted the woman and reported she denied having an affair with Woods.

The 33-year-old golf phenomenon has won the Masters tournament and the PGA tournament each four times, as well as three U.S. Open Championships.

Investigators had sought possible surveillance tapes of the wreck from neighbors, but none were found, she said.

Toobin: Why Tiger Woods may not be talking

In his Sunday statement, Woods praised his wife Elin Nordegren, saying she "acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble." Nordegren told police she used a golf club to break out the rear window of the vehicle, then pulled Woods from the SUV after she heard the accident from inside their home.

"This is a private matter, and I want to keep it that way." "The only person responsible for the accident is me," he said.

Woods and his wife have two children, a 2-year-old and a baby born in February.

Holy Cow!!!! What is it with people these days that they feel its a God-given right to invade the privacy of others? Is Tiger Woods' car accident really any business of ours? All the speculating and assumptions and accusations are like stones being thrown at the man in an attempt to anger him into 'fessing up to something that will titillate us and be tomorrow's next great TMZ story.

I applaud him for keeping his private life private.  He ran his car into a tree in front of his house. Oooops. Right now it's between him and his insurance agent.  And that's the way it should stay.

I’ve always liked Tiger, but I’m really disappointed in him.

I'm a HUGE Woods fan......possibly because I'm a golf nut. His "transgressions" statement came out 3 hours AFTER Jamie released the tape of Tiger calling her. Go figure....;)

Tiger has led his life like few others have that are star athletes. Starting with the way his dad Earl shielded him from the media unless it was self serving for his son, to Tigers web page that shows he and his family in loving photos, complete with wording of how much he's a family man and puts them above everything else in his life, knowing at the time he was doing that, he was involved in an adultress affair, to his hosting an annual golf outing in DC for military families, then his upcoming tournament in California for his kids foundation......all the while refusing to cooperate with Orlando police personnel......something that these same kids will look to him as a role model and think that's acceptable behavior? His life is one of total focus on Tiger......and only Tiger. He abides by different rules than we do....hey, so be it, but don't go yelling foul and blaming the media and these women that are now accusing him of infidelity for this mess he's in....look in the mirror pal....THAT'S the issue.....YOU'RE the problem.....not us common folk who only expected more out of you.....we're not to blame........this whole personna of you being this squeaky clean, perfect family man that you have very carefully managed to put forth to the public, hence receiving all that endorsement money in part due to your publicity campaigns to somehow be looked upon as better than the rest.....all of this comes with a price.....it says YOU will hold up your end of the bargain....that YOU, Tiger Woods, will not put your reputation at risk by doing something stupid like you just did. Quit with the shallow apologies that STILL have a ring to them that accuses the media for your pain right now. Stand up and own up to your "transgressions"......not wait until the next potential barrage of accusers step forward.....come clean to your adoring fans, and especially to your wife and children. She shouldn't have to read anything else concerning what you have done to her, along with the rest of us. Tell her what you've done BEFORE the next bimbo does.

I so agree with you. A lot of these celebs think they can just go out, run around, do what ever they want, kiss up to the press when they have something to sell, then shake their fist at the same press when they come crashing down. Do I feel that the press sometimes goes way to far? Absolutely. That is why there is an off switch on all TV. That is why I never have and probably will never buy those rag magazines.

But I've got news for some. This has been going on for ever. Heck, I can remember when a married starlett got pregnant by another man and was ban from Hollywood. I also remember when a very popular actress got pregnant by someone, quickly married an older Actor and to this day passes off the son as her husbands. Just one look at the kid and there is no doubt who the father is. Well to those of us who remember that far back.

There has been scandal around since the beginning of time. I feel bad for Tiger's wife. Her private life is gone.

>>>Yes, the men are stupid enough to put themselves in the position, but the women are basically whores riding the coattails of a famous man and hoping to catch some of the stardust when it falls off.<<<

Why do you say that the women are "....basically whores..."

I'm very disappointed in him. But I have to give his wife credit for taking care of herself in all of this. She's renotiating her pre-nup, as she should. You go girl.

Details of Elin Woods' newly-rewritten prenup emerge

By Jay Busbee

Elin and Tiger Woods had a prenuptual agreement, as expected. The couple is undergoing marital counseling, as you'd also expect. And now The Daily Beast is reporting that Elin Woods is renegotiating that prenup to get an immediate $5 million payout from her husband and as much as $55 million more to stay with him for two more years.

The initial prenup was worth $20 million after 10 years of marriage. However, the Chicago Sun-Times' Bill Zwecker has reported that Elin Woods will receive an immediate payment "into an account she alone controls," and that the 10-year timeframe -- which began when they married in 2004 -- has been shortened and the value increased "substantially."

The Daily Beast quotes "a lawyer familiar with the couple's negotiations" in reporting that the term of the prenup has been shortened to seven years, and that a series of staggered payments could increase the total value to $75 million.

But apparently there's also a behavioral component to all this: Elin Woods must "be a dutiful wife in showing up with him at social events and in public as if they were still the perfect couple, and sign a nondisclosure form that will prevent her from ever telling her story."

It's important to note that to date, there's no concrete evidence that Elin Woods has ever been anything but the perfectly dutiful golf wife. I'm sure the Woodses would like nothing more than to portray domestic calm to the world, and Elin Woods now apparently has several million more reasons to do just that.

Oh, you are doing just fine by yourself! LOL

I am just getting so tired of EVERY channel I turn to having either something about Tiger or the two "wannabes" who crashed the dinner at the White House. Now that may have been a disaster, but do you see all the publicity those two are getting? We just (finally) got a reprieve from all the Michael Jackson hype and now this!

We are doing fine, down in AL where we thought it would be nice and warm in the winters....but have had lots of rain (5.5 inches just on Wednesday) and cloudy, windy cool days. Oh well, we are here for good now and just need to adapt! Have a great Christmas!

I think only YOU knew the circumstances of your relationship and whether or not it would work.
