she died this morning of cardiac arrest at age 32. her mother discovered her unconscious in the shower, and immediately called paramedics and began administering cpr. when she arrived at the hospital, she was pronounced dead.
i am pretty devastated about this. i honestly have never cried when a celebrity died before, but i've been tearing up ever since i first learned of brittany's death.
you know how people tell you that you look similar to a celebrity? i get told i'm a brittany murphy look-a-like ALL the time. especially when i have blonde hair. it sucks because from now on if someone says that, it's probably going to depress me. =(
i grew up watching her. she was on this tv show called "almost home" on the disney channel when i was in elementary school. of course, i saw her in "clueless." and i own like 6 movies that she's been in. i just love her, as an actress, and can tell that she was a free spirit, so full of joy and life.
she also had a beautiful singing voice.
i don't know, it's just such a shock. my heart goes out to her family, friends, anyone who knew her, and anyone who remembers her as fondly as i do.
RIP Brittany Murphy.

You wrote a very nice tribute. I cried when I heard that Brittany had died, too. I had watched her career and been very impressed with her talent. My tears were mostly for her mother, though. I know how she feels because, last July, I had to bury my oldest child, Stephen, who died of an accidental drug overdose, at the age of 26. I felt even worse for Brittany's mother, however, when I heard that Brittany had been an only child. I did not lose less than her mother did, but I still have a lot more to live for. I have five other children and a beautiful granddaughter. I don't know how I would have gone on living, if Stephen had been my only child. Hopefully, Brittany's wonderful recorded work, acting and singing, will be some comfort to her mother but, right now, she must feel like she has been hit by a train, and wonder how she is going to go on. When my son died, I felt his presence near me, for the first week or so. I hope Brittany's mother can feel her child's presence, too.
Here is a picture of my son, Stephen, with my granddaughter, his niece, Ashlyn.
i am so sorry to hear about the loss of your handsome son. he has the face of a good man. and your granddaughter is beautiful.
i can't imagine the horror of losing a child. i lost one of my best friends to an accidental overdose this year (prescription meds), and it was such a terrible shock. he was 21. way too young. just like your stephen was way too young.
again, i am sorry for your loss. <3 i hope this holiday season will lift your spirits. =)
I was shocked to hear of her passing and especially of cardiac arrest. She was way too young. I'd like to know if it was sudden or if she had been feeling ill. I read somewhere that she was diabetic, which can sometimes lead to heart problems if left untreated. Her death is just so shocking.
I saw a movie based on a true story recently and the young mother died of heart disease due to a virus she got. She just thought she had lingering symptoms of the flu she had. It was so unexpected and happened so quickly.
My heart goes out to her mother.
I felt awful when I read the news.
It is sad that
Thanks for your kind words. I am also sorry to hear about the death of your friend! My son also died from a prescription drug, methadone. He had gotten a hold of some of the liquid form and apparently didn't realize how much of it was he was taking. He was on a houseboat down at Lake Powell, with his dad and four of his siblings. No one else knew that he had taken anything. He went and took a nap and stopped breathing. When his dad realized it, he thought he still felt a faint pulse and started CPR. They put Stephen into the speedboat and took off for the dock. They were in one of the more remote canyons of the lake, where there was no way for emergency vehicles to get there. My ex gave my two other boys, ages 23 and 15, a crash course in CPR and the three of them rotated CPR and driving the boat, during the hour it took to get to the dock. My two daughters, as well as the two friends my 15 year old had taken with him, could do nothing but sit and watch. The paramedics did everything they could, too, but Stephen was just gone. I believe he was gone before they noticed he wasn't breathing, but I know that my ex needed to know that he had tried everything to save him.
Anyway, on a happier note, here is a recent picture of Ashlyn, with her hair in her face!

My understanding is that she had diabetes. One of the pharmaceuticals they removed from her house was Topamax. It can be used for migraines, as an antiseizure med or for peripheral neuropathy. I use it for PN. PN can be a side effect of diabetes. Topomax can also cause weight loss, which can be what is behind all the eating disorder rumors. Another potential side effect of topomax is seizures. You can't just stop taking it because of this risk, you have to wean off of it. If she had been ill, had severe vomiting, was unabale to keep her Topmax down, it very well could have lead to a seizure that killed her. She was fairly, physically fragile, in my understanding, being both diabetic and having a heart condition. Topamax even explains the rumors of her being mentally "in and out" during recent
