Irish bookie takes bets on Palin’s Fox--

What a hoot!!!

Can't wait to hear Palin's "political commentary and analysis". Hope she has good writers otherwise she'll be a laughing stock.

Irish bookie takes bets on Palin’s FoxNews gig

http://www.philly.com/philly/business/homepage/20100112_Irish_bookie_takes_bets_on_Palins_FoxNews_gig.html

One day after word came that Sarah Palin is joining FoxNews, Ireland's biggest bookie reports that nearly half of bettors doubt the ex-Alaska governor can keep the gig a year.

Calling her "gaffe-prone," bookmaker PaddyPower.com adds that the minority group she's most likely to offend first is gays/lesbians/bisexuals (4-1), followed by African Americans and Muslims (both at 6-1).

Least likely to bear the initial insult: the Irish, the infirm and Inuits (all tied at 20-1), and Jehovah's Witnesses (25-1).

The "gotcha media" was not listed.

Not a minority, many might say.

And yet in the sweepstakes to be the next GOP presidential nominee, the Palin was tied for third - with Newt Gingrich - in the bookie's odds at 5-1. She trails only ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (3-1) and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (4-1).

Strangely, included on that list were "Bill First" - is that for Bill Frist, the physician/ex-senator from Tennessee? - and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who, being foreign born, is constitutionally ineligible.

Pundits must ponder, right?

OK, well, observers... and uh, commentators... might conclude... what exactly?

That we can set odds of our own!

How's this? Such oddsmaking proves that...

4/5: People will bet on anything - even which cornflake floats first to the side of a bowl.

7/3: Tina Fey's Palin-yuckfest conspiracy has gone global.

1/2: Celebrities generate publicity even for Irish bookies.

"We did in fact offer a number of betting markets on Tiger Woods, the most popular of which was the value of the potential Woods divorce settlement," said Ken Robertson, Paddy Power spokesman.

The online novelty bets include next volcano to erupt (Japan's Mount Unzen leads), next James Bond (Sam Worthington), and which woman FHM will chose as sexiest (Cheryl Cole).

Palin's not on that last list, but she is a 50-1 longshot to replace Simon Cowell an American Idol judge - well back of Piers Morgan (3-1), P. Diddy (4-1) and Baby Face (5-1) - on another Paddy Power proposition.

Nor is she mentioned as a possible next pope, although Bono of U2 is.

FoxNews announced yesterday that Palin signed "a multi-year deal to offer her political commentary and analysis across all Fox News platforms, including Fox Business Channel, FoxNews.com and Fox News Radio."

Overwhelmingly, bettors do expect Palin to last longer than Jay Leno's 10 p.m. experiment - but are about evenly split about whether she'll remain "fair and balanced" in 2011, according to Paddy Power.

The odds of splitsville:

8/1: Before Sept. 1, 2010.

10/11: Between Sept. 1, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2010.

11/10: After Jan. 1, 2010.

The other minority groups she might offend first: single parents (8-1), seniors or the poor (10-1), Arab Americans (12-1), Jews (14-1), Native Americans or third world countries (both 16-1) and Christians (18-1).

Environmentalists, deadbeat dads, and Democrats did not make the list.

Isn't it a shame that NBC didn't think of it first. It seems that the liberals just can't get enough of Palin. Now they will all be tuning in to "hope" and "pray" Palin says something stupid. IMO....Fox was genius on this one.

Let's watch Fox's ratings skyrocket thru the roof even further while MSNBC finally circles the drain and flushes down the toilet.

It's a pity that liberals don't concern themselves more with Obama's spiraling poll ratings. It seems that the majority of Americans don't want his stupid healthcare reform...yet he pushes forward with it.

But hey....at least the liberals have Sarah Palin to worry about, right? Who cares about the economy, jobs, national security, etc., etc.

Nah. Personally, I'm just going to wait and see that sort of stuff on youtube :)

~But hey....at least the liberals have Sarah Palin to worry about~

Let's not confuse amusement with worry :) These days a bit of comic relief goes a long way.

Yeah....kind of like Reid digging himself deeper in a hole. In a sad sort of way, it's been comical to watch the Democrats single handedly turn healthcare reform into a fiasco.

Interestingly enough, there is not a single poll that shows that the majority of Americans support this disastrous reform....yet Obama and his clown circus keep pushing forward.

It has been sort of amusing to watch Obama sliding in is popularity polls too. ;-)

But hey.....as long as the Dems keep bringing up Sarah Palin and not concerning themselves with the REAL issues America faces.....2010 should bring some welcome changes in the Senate and House.

I agree. We could all use the laughs that we know are going to come along with Palin.

The ONE and ONLY thing I miss about GWB is that he was good for a joke.
