Regarding the disaster in Haiti-- why isn't emergency food, water and basic medical being parachuted in to the people  until it can be more properly distributed? --- This has been done in other countries and the air craft need not even land.

Good question.

I find it interesting that Obama hand picked Bush and Clinton to oversee the aid. I guess after bashing Bush over the Katrina aid efforts, Obama picked him so Bush can take the heat for a failed aid attempt rather than Obama.

Gosh....he sure is clever. It kind of makes you wonder why Obama picked Bush....doesn't it?

Maybe he's giving Bush a chance to make up for being so lackadaiscal about Katrina. Hopefully Clinton can keep him off the golf course and keep him focused on the problems at hand. Without guidance, poor people in Haiti wouldn't attract Bush's positive attention near as much as Wall Street executives wanting the OK to sell more shady loans.

Doesn't make me wonder.

Did you wonder why Bush (43) enlisted the help of his father & Bill Clinton to help raise funds for the Tsunami

My son is a Marine whose specialty is urban search and rescue and biochem detection and mitigation. He is enroute to a support position offshore. It is quite problematic dropping food/water/supplies from aircraft. Inevitably there are crushing rushes toward the shipment. Additional injury and death are likely outcomes. Gangs or more powerful individuals will often kill or wound the competition in pursuit of the supplies. Then, the gangs or more powerful individuals will create a black market of sorts in distributing the supplies. So, instead of saving lives, lives are lost and the intended recipients are left to pay for the supplies. The poor are denied the food/water/supplies altogether.

There was also something on the news just the other night that some of the supplies are already on the black market, and some of the money donated has already been stolen. The corruption there is unbelievable, before the quake, aid workers often had to pay just to be ensured safe passage or for the priviledge of being allowed to offer aid.

They are using helicopter drops, but the volume of the need is too great.

Update to my previous post. My DS called, and it is now unlikely that his services will be needed with the MEU that would be stationed off-shore in Haiti. Now, he's told that he will likely be sent back to Maryland as early as Monday. Apparently, they have more help than they need, which seems strange to me based upon television reporting.

ITA! Obama does seem to spend a little too much time on the golf course during a crisis. I wouldn't bet on Clinton keeping him off the course though....Clinton's probably in bed with some chickee poo. LOL! ;-)

This is what ex-Presidents do.))

Right...that's why Obama criticized Bush ad nauseam about his handling of Katrina....but decides to ask for his help anyway.

BTW....did you ever wonder why Mississippi seemed to do okay with Katrina aid but LA didn't? Hmmm...might have something to do with their totally incompetent mayor of New Orleans at the time.

Also, Bush (43) didn't criticize his father or Clinton about disaster response but then ask for their help anyway.
