Focus on the Family Super Bowl ad
| Mon, 01-25-2010 - 1:33pm |
And email I received from Care2. I will boycott the Super Bowl should they show Focus on the Family's ad. I'm very disappointed in CBS.
In the past, CBS has denied other organizations, like MoveOn.org and United Church of Christ, the chance to get their word out during the Superbowl because the network considered their messages to be too controversial. But it seems its definition of "controversial" has changed. CBS approved an ad by the ultra-conservative group Focus on the Family, attacking a woman's right to choose.
Thanks for taking action!

Demand that CBS pull this controversial and disrespectful ad from the Superbowl line-up >>
The Superbowl is the most-watched television program in the country -- a prime opportunity for anti-choice groups to broadcast their idea that a woman doesn't have the right to make decisions about her own body. What's worse is CBS has no plans to run a pro-choice ad to balance both sides of the issue.
CBS's decision to run the anti-choice ad is biased, unfair and unethical. Tell CBS to cancel the Superbowl ad from Focus on the Family >>

What bothers me is they aren't allowing both sides, they aren't allow the United Church of Christ, or anything that is pro-choice. But a couple of years ago they did allow a United Methodist Church (which I belong too and it was a very nice message and I think still playing)
FOF is just very anti-choice, female group.
Intolerance of what?
(( I don't see the need of advertising either side of the abortion issue on a televised football game. It's just not the time or place for it.))
I have to agree with you there. It does seem like an odd venue. Mostly men will be watching anyway (I would think).
I guess CBS is really hard up for advertising dollars.
interesting...and yet, if there were an ad attacking Pro-Lifers it would be ok. I will be watching the Super Bowl in SUPPORT of this commercial.
It's called freedom of speech. It's not like they are out promoting people to be racists or commit hate crimes. They are just promoting something that they feel very strongly about. If you don't like it then don't watch it.

Where did anyone say that was okay (other than you)?
**It's really sad when an ad that shows the miracle of life is appalling to women. They paid for the ad they can show it. What exactly would be the OTHER SIDE????? Showing an abortion procedure. LIfe is GOOD!! DEATH is BAD....INTOLERANCE reigns***
It doesen't. It's really about wishing to
"yet, if there were an ad attacking Pro-Lifers it would be ok."
Given that I said, "I would be supportive of pro-life people signing a petition against an ad that pushed abortion as the best method of birth control" in a previous post, I don't see much support for your statement. But, freedom of speech means freedom to be racist, despite what you've said in your post. It might be against what we believe but the government doesn't restrict that. Freedom of speech means we have the right to say what we want without intervention from the government (I would have a problem w/ the government stepping in here and disallowing the ad). It doesn't mean the people who run the Superbowl have to accept every ad (hence, it rejecting Moveon.org) and it doesn't mean that we have to accept every view w/out responding. I wonder if people really have an understanding of what that amendment really means since it's brought up at such irrelevant times. In the same vane, I think conservative Christians had every right to boycott Disney when they recognized same sex relationships. There's nothing related to our Constitional right to freedom of speech.
