What Does This Say About US?

I was watching tv this morning, when I saw a "Special News" flash. I assumed it was another bombing or attack or something significant. Instead, it was Tiger Woods and his rehearsed "apology". Every network, cable news channel had this "special news" report on the air. I do believe there was as much, if not more coverage of this as there was of the plane hitting the IRS building yesterday. Once again, I ask....what does this say about us?

Yes...I saw that special news flash too. I wonder what you wonder. Now, if Tiger had said that he was a secret spy for the Taliban and was turning himself over to federal authorities, that would be news worthy. I just don't get interrupting regular programming to have a sports star say he was a cheating dog. Duh...we already knew that. Then he said he was sorry...we already knew that.

It says we place more value on celebrities and the goings on in their lives than we do on anything else.

Maybe we don't... maybe it's the media that thinks we do, or says we should, or just shoves it in our face regardless...

I don't buy it that most people in America were more interested in Tiger Woods than the plane crash.

It was the lead story this morning on my station, and the plane crash followed.

You're probably right, but you have to wonder who's buying all those Enquirer magazines and keeping TMZ and Access Hollywood on the air.

Its the result of the 24-hour news cycle and the competition among cable news providers.

Not just 'celebrities'...there are too many Americans with an unhealthy fascination when it comes to the private lives of anyone who makes it into the media limelight.

And have you noticed how easy it is to get into the media limelight these days?
