Alleged Perv - 471 Felony Counts

Gasp!  My DH has been a pharmaceutical rep for many years.  This doctor was on his rotation from 2001 through 2004.  DH says the pediatrician's office was way over-the-top with a carousel in the waiting area.  DH said that the doctor had a sort of spacey/detatched demeanor.   If these allegations are true, I hope they lock him up and throw away the key:

Delaware pediatrician accused of sexually abusing patients

February 22, 2010

A Delaware pediatrician has been indicted on 471 felony counts in the alleged sexual abuse of his patients, prosecutors announced Monday.

The Sussex County grand jury indictment accuses Dr. Earl Bradley, 56, who has had a practice in Lewes, Delaware, for more than 10 years, of victimizing 103 children -- all but one girls. The charges range from rape and sexual exploitation of a child to endangering child welfare and assault.

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden told CNN Radio the indictment is based on "video and digital evidence" seized from Bradley's home and medical practice in December. Authorities have not ruled out additional charges, he added.

"The reality is that as a prosecutor, the rules prohibit me from telling you exactly how I feel -- and I'm feeling a great deal today," Biden said.

Bradley also has medical licenses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. Authorities have said they have contacted officials in those states.

He was initially arrested and charged in December.

Bradley's attorney, Eugene Maurer Jr., said he would base his client's defense on mental health.

"Most of the evidence in this case comes from videotapes -- it's kind of hard to argue with videotapes," Maurer said, adding, "The issue in this case is going to come down to his mental health at the time."

Biden said Bradley will be arraigned within four to six weeks.>>>

OMG!  Those poor children!  Not only were they abused, but some of it is saved for a very long time on videotape.   And...I'm assuming that the abuse took place inside of one of his offices (he had two according to my DH).  Aren't parents always present during their children's doctors visits?

It does make me wonder where the parents were. I wonder about the age of the kids. The Fox News story said that one of the victims was 6 months old.

That freaks me out! A six month old being abused! I'd like to know how the doctor got time alone with a six month old. I NEVER left my children alone with the pediatrician. When my boys were coming of age and our pediatrician was conducting their physicals, my DH was present.

Yeah, I don't get it, either. I'm always with my kids at the doctor's office and was at the dentist's, though now with two kids being seen, they are put into different rooms and I'm with the youngest one (and popping next door to see how things are going with the eldest). However, the rooms don't have doors and there are huge windows to see in and out of.

I also want to add, lest someone think I am blaming the parents for what happened, that is not the case. That physician should be fried (or locked up forever) for what he did.

I agree. I'm not blaming the parents either. I just don't understand how this doctor got the "alone time" with children to do what he did.

My first thought was like many of yours. Where were the parents?

Many years ago when my son was a baby I had to take him to a pediatric orthopedist in Orlando.

~Aren't parents always present..~

He was popular and trusted, and people can be reluctant to question authority.

"...an outbuilding. Police say Bradley was known to take patients to this building, without their parents, to give the children a treat."

http://www.capegazette.com/storiescurrent/200912/bradley18-4.html

"Mike Duckworth, treasurer of the Bethel United Methodist Church near Bradley's home, said the charges have brought "a lot of shock" in the neighborhood and to the parents of children in the church's preschool program.

""There was a time when Dr. Bradley was the new and exciting pediatrician in town," Duckworth said.

"Duckworth said his granddaughter had two appointments with Bradley, but his daughter decided to get a new doctor about four years ago after Bradley asked to see the girl alone.

""There was a point in the examination when he wanted to take my granddaughter away and my daughter wouldn't let him do that," Duckworth said."
