Well what I find unethical...Is seeing adults take children to see this flick. How disturbed is that? It is rated R....not for children under 18.

Here's the movie theater I went to see it to:

Here's the official definition of "G" in Quebec:

G - General.

In Quebec, a G rating indicates a film is "unlikely to disturb an average viewer." A film is not suitable for children unless a notice stating "for children" accompanies the rating."

13+

Children 12 and under may be admitted to a public showing of the film, but only if accompanied by an adult."

16+

May be viewed, rented, or purchased by persons 16 years of age or over.

18+

May be viewed, rented, or purchased by persons 18 years of age or older.

Hmmm. What is the minimum age for going into the military in the US?

I certainly don't see how F911 would rate a G, so I'm wondering if all documentaries automatically get a G rating. Any idea?

It looks like the difference between your 13+ & our PG13 explains why it's rated R here.

Anyone under 16 can see the movie with a guardian; that leaves a year for anyone who wants to to see it on their own before joining the military.

<<"Oooorrrrr...he's telling teenagers to defy the R rating and sneak in.">>... yes he is, and by doing so he suggests to them to break the law and offers his help doing so.

<<"I just think it's hysterical the knots people are twisting their otherwise straight morals into to justify ripping MM off. ">>.....EXACTLY and it goes both ways. Baileyhouse supports MM's ways, which would inclúde stealing/breaking the law (see quote).

I suppose he could eventually put it out on the internet, but he's a filmmaker in the film industry and the only way he gets the money to make these documentaries in the first place is by having a proven track record that his films will perform at the box office. Winning awards (like the Oscar) also help him secure financing for his next films, and you can't get an Oscar without a theatrical release.

He can't release it on BOTH the internet and in theaters because no distributor in their right minds would pick it up.

And finally, if you want to reach an economically diverse audience...like those teenagers in Flint who have military recruiters in their school lunchroom...your best bet is to put it in a theater. A movie ticket costs 10 bucks. A computer with a high speed cable modem costs considerably more.
