But back to the subject of Iraq...

Why is it that the US has attacked a country that has never done anything to its citizens? How about Saudi Arabia's very poor record, support of Bin Laden, not to mention that the terrorists came from there? They also certainly have the money to fund WMDs!

You've missed the entire point...He SHOULD have known about the other planes! He should have at the very least gotten up and gathered any shreds of information available! It's been said he's not very curious, but this is crazy. I know there were communications problems but really...he behaved as if he were just a figurehead. Like he was the Queen of England or something.

"<<"even if they had managed to reach it in time">>....so fact is sadly they couldn't."

If you're saying there's nothing anyone could do, that's baloney. And even if it was futile, the President should have been aware, involved, questioning, in command, and not sticking to his schedule like a robot.

<<.... so he made sure and authorized Cheney to give the order, and went on to address his terrified/horrified/confused citizens and show his compassion>>

No. If he did give Cheney the order (which I personally doubt) it wasn't until after 10. He reportedly gave the order from Air Force 1. You've got your chronology wrong. He gave the speech as if everything was over, when in fact it was an ongoing attack. If he spent, maybe 7 minutes talking to the command center back in Washington he might have had a clue as to what the situation was.

<<...so hé sux?>> I didn't say that. Let's just say his leadership instincts were just not there.

<>

Get up off his rear and find out what the h... is happening! Ideally, he would not have started the photo-op at the school at all, since he was told of the first plane before he went in. Since he had read the PDB a month earlier "Bin Laden Determined to Attack US" and it even mentioned planes, maybe it should have crossed his mind that THIS was the attack. Not pilot error. It's just ridiculous. Many others in the know in Washington realized, without needing to be told, that this was an Al Qaeda attack. Even Tenent's assistant, who gave him the news, used the word "attack" in reference to the first plane.

I used to cut him slack on this issue, saying that no one could have expected what happened that day, and many couldn't fathom it even as it was happening. But since then I've learned of all the intelligence warnings that Bush and his staff were well aware of, and in light of that, their actions make no sense at all. I think they were in deep denial and wanted to proceed as if things weren't that bad, when they coulnd't have been worse.

Plenty of people have already seen the film, and I haven't heard anyone doubting his leadership on that day except here on this board. I have heard lots and lots of people on both sides questioning Moore's credibility and criticizing his mean-spirited tactics though, so perhaps not everyone interpreted the footage the same way you and Moore did.

Well, I for one hope it's not personally up to the President to order the evacuation of any buildings which might be targets of an attack. One would hope there are others to whom that duty is delegated, because I doubt even Superman would be able to realize what was happening, foresee all possible targets and get all of those orders out in less than seven minutes.

This is just one article, do a yahoo search of Moore lies and factual errors and you'll come up with dozens more.

Bush knows that initial reports are often wrong. It would have been just lovely for him to have repeated Cheney and announced that we had shot 2 hijacked jets out of the sky or the other erroneous reports that the WH was getting about other hijackings and car bombs going off.

The best thing he could have done is exactly what he did, give a brief statement to reassure the country that government was functioning and doing everything it could to deal with the crisis.

<<They DID evacuate after the plan hit! And they did evacuate the White House. Give me a break! Can't evacuate the pentagon????? They knew the planes were targetting BUILDINGS.>>

You don't shut down the entire federal government because 2 commercial buildings have been hit.

In the early minutes after the WTC attack, I dare say that the leadership of all branches of our military and Donald Rumsfeld were quite quite busy doing their jobs. If they were aware of a threat, he would have ordered an evacuation.

I think Jimmy Carter figuring out the schedule for the White House tennis court has given people the false impression that the government is staffed by mindless robots who require directions from on high before engaging in any action.
