It seems to be "pick your poison" with these two parties as far as the deficit goes. For the Republicans, Eisenhower's farewell address warning about the costs of the "military indusrial complex" rings more true than ever. And the Democrats would give us something alot like Western Europe in health and welfare costs if they had the chance. It's like Everett Dirksen used to say, " A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money."

I agree.

I wish there were two other candidates, or that government were much more responsible with the tax dollars they tax from the working Americans (nice wish huh), as that would help abate the situation.

I was not referring to MM's fictional documentary, but the actual documentary "9/11". As I said, I have not seen it in a while, but it was an extremely powerful and moving documentary.

Your vote counts within your state & if enough people are like-minded, then your state goes the way you'd like. With a popular vote nationwide electing the president, states with large populations, for example California and New York, would be choosing the president and the Fly-over-States with smaller populations may as well stay home. OUR vote wouldn't matter where as with the electoral college everyone's vote matters.

Speaking of votes... Neither my husband or I have received our Florida Absentee ballots in the mail yet!

Hope Florida gets it's act together!!! Wish voting by computer wasn't fraught with problems. That would greatly help many military overseas if somehow it could be fixed so that it wasn't subject to tampering.

Miffy, this is very interesting. I was listening to Sean Hannity last night on the way home from work, and there was a caller from Pennsylvania who said that his son who is overseas hasn't received his either, nor any other folks from Pennsylvania. Since Pa. is a swing state (I think Florida is too) of course that led to the theory that it's a Democratic conspiracy to keep the service folks from voting since they're more likely to vote for Bush. I don't know if I'd be paranoid enough to think that, but it does give one pause, doesn't it?
