Bush/Kerry Debates. When, or if, there

are any televised debates between the two candidates, how do you suppose they would be set up? Would Cheney share the podium with Bush, (sort of the way he helped during the 9/11 Commission investigation?) Would Bush need advance notice of exactly which questions might be asked? President Bush is not particularly an eloquent speaker, but he does come off as a "good ole' boy". However, after almost four years of this, I suspect the American people are looking for a lot more substance. I can't wait for the Debates to start, but I am concerned the Bush camp will wiggle out of them if they can.

Go ahead & chuckle. Although he's not as articulate or polished as Gore, he won those debates. Kerry, on the other hand, has a habit of talking until he looses the arguement for himself.

No, Cheney can't actually be on the stage with him. That would be too obvious. Perhaps they could get Bush a special ear piece so Cheney/Rove can whisper the answers to him. If they can't arrange that I'm sure they will demand the questions in advance so that Bush can practice them over and over until Rove is satisfied. LOL

Bush won the debates (or at least won some voters over) by being theaffable, regular guy - certainly not through the power of his arguments. He's not going to be able to take that tone again since by and large regular guys aren't leading a worldwide War on Terror. He's going to have to be serious and factual, two things which he really struggles with when speaking for himself. He's going to have to exude gravitas, which is really hard to do when you're just trying to desperately find some way to get out of the sentence you've started.

I predict he's going to speak almost entirely in three or four word sentences, and do what I call his "Spelling Bee" tactic, in which he thinks he's answered the question if he uses a word from it in a sentence three times. It goes something like this:

Q: Should Americans be worried about the increasing deficits?

A: No I don't think Americans should be worried about the deficit. I'm not worried about the defict. Deficits go up and deficits go down...you see it's like a pendulum. Goes back and forth. And so deficits are a natural part of the budget process. Deficits.

ROFLOL...that is EXACTLY what he will do. LOL

His handlers are not this good.

I wouldn't mind that answer.

Bush would not try to wiglle out of the Rep/Dem debate.

the two camps will make a decision on date and color of stage and format.

And then the commission will rubber stamp it.

It would be nice to have open debates.

or at least have the League of Women Voters do one.

I wonder if you really believe that.

As opposed to not taking it seriously? Why wouldn't he? Do you see him laughing aloud and making jokes?

Well that sounds better than this:

Q: Should the American people be concerned about the increasing defecits?

Kerry:

No I don't think Americans should be worried about the deficit. I'm worried about the defict. Deficits go up and go down...you see it's like a pendulum. Goes back and forth. And so deficits are a natural part of the budget process. So I plan on doing my best to bring down the defecit because it can be worrisome but no I don't think the people should worry. It's actually not that bad, well I have a plan to make the defecit go down. It might stay where it is if I am not given the power to do something about the overwhelming deficit because it can worry a lot of people.

Bush is King of The Smirk. It's hard to tell jokes when you don't have the ability to remember a punch line.
