Kerry's Lying

John Kerry:

"We've got more African Americans in jail than we do in college. That's unacceptable," he added.
In fact, it seems that there are more than twice as many African Americans in college than in jail.

U.S. Census Bureau (2000): African Americans in college: 2,224,181

U.S. DoJ Office of Justice Programs: "Prison and Jail Inmates at MidYear 2003" (p.11): "Table 13. Number of inmates in state or federal prisons or local jails" -- Black Americans in jail: 899,200.

Those nearly 900,000 incarcerated African Americans still represent a tragic waste of lives and potential. But fortunately, things are not nearly as gloomy as John Kerry wants to believe they are.

It's possible that Kerry is basing his claims on other data, but it would be interesting to learn what his sources are.

UPDATE: As a commenter notes below, this Kerry howler was already debunked a month ago. But then why is Kerry still making the same claim today? What kind of an echo chamber is his campaign that none of the staff read Kerry's sharpest critics? Not a good sign for those who look to Kerry to improve intelligence capabilities or cure government agencies of their dysfunctional groupthink culture.

well, you don't have body language, eye contact, or any of the compontnts of human interaction... It is hard to trust words on a white background for a lot of people. But that is part of the drama, and excitement of it all, I guess. It is good to have the argument too, other wise it would be a lot of:

INITIAL POST: I hate hamburger -bob1

RE: me too -ed234

RE: yeah, it tastes bad, I think. -Fredifier007

RE: I agree, not as good as say.... sausage. -shirtoninohio

RE: amen to that. -bob1

RE: so..... what else do you guys hate? -ed234

LOL

I can spend hours amusing myself this way.

Thanks for replying, and If I could give you a certian reason I would, but I can't, so Hopefully, water under the bridge, I do like to read your posts, you definitely have a different point of view than most of us, and that is a good thing to have here.

thanks again.

I wasn't the one that said "Sprechen zie English" nor was I the one to make the remark about it being cute. I was simply backing up the person that rightly indicated that the post was illegible and then went on to try to answer what they believed to be the question. I was not attempting to attack anyone, but to defend someone being attacked unfairly IMO. The "Sprechen zie English" line may have been a little over the top, but it was a humorous way of saying "What the freak are you trying to say?"

And thank you, the note was heartfelt, as I've said to myself many times that some of these people are great in their posts.

On the other hand, I feel that there are many immature and foolish people here, including some that can't seem to put a sentence together with any sort of clarity. Again, there are examples on each side, but the ones that irritate me the most are those that repeat what their respective party has set out in doctrine without backing it up with anything from the real world, or even real opinions of their own, IMHO. I appreciate more the people who state the opinions they have developed through life experiences rather than purely reading the pamphlets and listening to the airwave zealots on their party's side.

I also appreciate those that know to proofread their messages before posting them. We all make typos, but at least make sure the message can be understood, please!

I am guilty of not proofreading my posts. I think it is because then i just have too much to add, or get all perfectionistic about it. I figure I will just slap it onthere, as long as I am not beigngraded, and am understandable. SOmetimes I read my reports at work and think, "WHAT???? If I had not been there, I would not understand this at all!" I am the queen of typos, but I feel like people will get my point... and if not, well, I dont care. Maybe I will get their point instead. I agree though, it is nice to have some clear idea of what a person it trying to say, but, again, think about it this way, if you had to read a transcript of a conversation you were having with a person at a social gathering, the same discussion, a mixed and passionate crowd... you are goign to read a lot of sentence fragments, and interjections that have nothing to follow, and run on sentences.

So goes the art of conversation, the more passionate, the more mistakes we make, even ask my kids, when I am call them by the wrong name and stutter and stumble to make a point when I am obscenely mad.

I am not always so eloquent....

LOL.

Hey moveleft, I see you are getting alot of flack about something very innocent Actually, I laughed when I read that but I think it was the "EH" in front of it, and that made it not seem rude to me. Now I have this picture of you being old with a horn coming out of your ear saying, "Eh what did you say sonny?"

Well in the immortal words of another poster, when I first came here people were very vicious. Even now(I include myself in this) many posters use words like: stupid, biased, racist, ignorant, your not American, grow up, etc. So I can't see how your little 3 words is any worse than that.

But you have made great points after those words, and I think that is why people are choosing to harp on the first sentence. I don't think anyone has commented on the last part of your post, why is that?

Ahhh.. I get it now. I thought you were meaning something else. You know being sarcastic. My bad. :-) Anyway, many people liked to believe the President and believed that he had factual information. Even when he was making his case for war, there were still thousands of people against it, they knew it was not right. I was one of them. I am firm in my belief of inner instincts, and mine told me this was not right. While I could see everything that Bush was saying and proving them with facts, something kept telling me it was wrong. But as the saying goes--Hindsight is 20/20.

Thank you Miffy and Renee for the welcomes, but I doubt that I'll be posting here, I'll just stay in lurkdom. I came looking for a political discussion board to get all points of view. I knew that any board would be a hot one, but I'm not up for having my posts critiqued on spelling and gammar and some of the other rudeness that goes on here when a poster speaks from an alternate view. Debate forum or not, it would be nice to see some cut others the slack they will cut for their like minded individuals. That said, there here are posters here that are well thought out in there points, and provide solid links to support their position, that was what I was looking for. I understand that politics can be a very emotional issue. My husband and I witnessed it first hand at a birthday party when a room full of strangers attacked my DH, with such hate and anger I couldn't believe, because he had a different party affiliation than him. They accussed him of much of what they were guilty of themselves, most notably, following blinding. It was them that couldn't discuss the issues, only spew rhetoric. I plan on knowing why I am voting for my candidate, whether it ends up changing my vote or not, I don't want to vote based on my emotions. I've learned the hard way raising kids that acting on emotion is not a good thing at all.

So, I thank all of you for sharing your postitions and information. I'm glad that you all do take the time to post in this forum. You may not think that you will ever change someones mind, but the information you share can help others, and the way you present that information will also have an effect. At some point, it gets hard to separate hatefullness from the information being presented, it kind of taints that information for me. It's like when a company has to dis another companies product to lift up and support their own, either it can stand on it's own merit, or it can't stand. That's why I don't watch TV and political ads.

Thanks again! I'm glad that there are some Americans with passion regarding the people they support for our leaders. I know that way too many of us are voting a ticket b/c we just don't know any better.
