The Successes of President George Bush

Dear Reader,

I'm getting sick and tired of my fellow Americans

saying that the presidency of George W. Bush is a

failure. With the string of successes he's had,

nothing could be further from the truth. Let me list a

few:

1. He has successfully rid America of that troubling

budget surplus and turned it into a $500 billion

deficit.

2. He has successfully helped America's trading

partners have the highest trade surplus with us in

America's history.

3. He has successfully lowered the taxes for the

richest Americans and corporations at the expense of

99% of the American population.

4. He has successfully started another Viet Nam in

Iraq after lying to the whole world.

5. He has successfully pushed the price of gas up to

the highest level ever here in America.

6. He has successfully allowed American corporations

to dramatically increase their pollution.

7. He has successfully thrown about 10% of the

population out of work.

8. He has successfully allowed corporations to export

our best middle-class jobs.

9. He has successfully divided our country as never

before.

10. He has successfully driven our oldest allies away.

11. He has successfully united the terrorists as never

before (he said all along he was a uniter, not a

divider).

12. He has successfully broken his oath to uphold the

constitution of the United States of America.

13. He has successfully united Democrats (yay!) as

they haven't been for years (I told you he was a

uniter).

14. He has successfully driven me out of the

Republican party for the rest of my life.

You know, with a string of successes like that, it's a

wonder America is still standing.

The President could have saved a lot face if he had not fought the commission's creation in the first place.

---

What did he not do that he should have done, immediately. And remember, these actions would have been before knowing what the chain of events where that lead to breakdown in communciatons and where our intelligence failed us.

---

Do you mean before 9/11? I do not mean that, nor am I pointing the finger at him over the 9/11 (Clinton either) attacks the inability for depts to share information etc.... (Classified areas by definiton cannot share computer data between each other)

I mean, after 9/11.

One specific, port security. Another, Rail security.

I just have to point this out to some who may not have noticed this ploy - although I haven't noticed it quite as much recently. Here's how it works....

A person posts an opinion. This opinion includes a criticism of Bush - for example the fact that he hid out under his desk and snorted coke while Kerry was being shot at in Viet Nam.

A Bush supporter pops up and says something like.... SO, YOU THINK......yada, yada, yada.

Usually it goes something like this ...

SO YOU THINK...a desk is strictly for office work, desks are very versatile. Some of our best presidents have used desks. George Washington sat at a desk - so I guess you hate George Washington.

I'm just pointing this out, I almost have to admire their ability to get people off track

-is there a class somewhere?

I would disagree with your assertion only because of the following:

I, like almost everyone else I know, would prefer to spend my hard earned money, and not have the government squander it on futile programs that are run so poorly that all the money in the world would not help.

The Government should actually spend more time looking at ways to reduce spending and make the money they take in with tax dollars actually go a little further. I would like to see politicians actually reduce the pork spending and special projects, to concentrate on the actual necessities of this country.

The answer is not raising taxes, it is controlled spending and cutting out programs that are just outright wasteful. I have been around too long to be told otherwise.

Name some.

I disagree, we're so far down into the hole that we either raise taxes and pay for it, or we tell our children to pay $1.50 (or more) for every $1.00 that we'd pay today.

I'm not gung ho on taxes, just my children.

First off, where did that rant come from. I asked what accomplishments he has in the Senate and you rant on about absolutely nothing that has to do with anything contained in my post.

What is wrong, since you cannot answer my post with facts, you have to resort to a personal attack???

Pretty pathetic debating tactics in my view, and it only goes to further prove my position that Kerry has not really done anything of importance (on his own, as I do not call piggybacking on someone elses bill an original thought) while in the Senate for 20 years. When you are a lawmaker, accomplishments are seen as prominent laws that you either author or co-author. I haven't seen anything of significance that Kerry has done during his term as Senator.

If you can find some information on a bill that he authored that was of a significant good that was passed, please let me know.

It's a good thing I don't want a legislator for President.

In all seriousness, against almost any other GOP Candidate I would expect Kerry to get his clock cleaned. But not against Bush and not with Democrats having their morale problem fixed.

It wouldn't surprise me that the shoe will be on the other foot in 2008, with another highly polarized election and the GOP with their ship together.

Let's see...the state of Hawaii receives $52,000,000 annually to help combat their resident snake problem..... I dont know about you but I think the government could spend $52,000,000 on much better projects.

(I used to have a website that listed the top ridiculous items but with my new computer it is not in my favorites.)

I did find this however:

"The report ranks states by how much pork Members of Congress from those states stuffed into the budget, with Alaska and Hawaii topping the list. Alaska received a record $766 per person - 30 times the national average. Hawaii received $392 per person"

"Examples of egregious government waste cited in the report include $550,000 for a Dr. Seuss memorial in Massachusetts, $12 million for research on wood, $400,000 for a parking lot in a town of 300 people in Alaska, $99 million to help pay for Olympics preparation in Utah and $460 million for an assault ship the Navy didn't request."

Here is a good site to visit:

So, that's yes for passing it on to our children, or no?

No way you're going to cut enough to pay off this debt.

yes, I meant after 9/11. So if I am understanding you correctly, your concern is that not enough was done for rail and port security. I haven't read the 9/11 report, do you know what steps they recommend to further secure those areas? I do remember conversations (talk radio call ins) regarding both those venues, and it seemed to me that security is more than a challenge in these areas. One that struck me was with shipping. The cost of verfiying that what is claimed to be in the boxed cargo would be astronomical. I can't remember all the issues with railway, but it seems to me that it is not unlike the boarders. Miles of rails, often in isolated areas, hard to keep that under observation for attacks, and the openness of the train stations, as well as passagers getting on and off the trains continually. A lot harder to control than stop overs on an airplane. Are you aware of measures that could have been put in place, or other issues that I'm clueless about? I'd appreciate the input.

As far as the President saving face not fighting placement of the commission, I'd agree. I didn't understand the hesitancy. It seemed like a logical step to me, so I was glad to see that he reconsidered, did he, the President, have total control of the say so of forming this commission?

Are you suggesting that I am playing games here. Quite the contrary. I am not here to debate, although that is what this board is all about. I am here to gather information. When I first found this board I decided rather hastily not to participate, all the personal bashing that was going on was too much for me. I changed my mind when I saw the benefit of many of these posters knowledge, whether they agree with my political leanings or not. I am not a savy political person at all. My political beliefs are what they are b/c of my personal moral convictions, not b/c I've thought out the issues. I've now gotten to a point where I wan't to understand the issues on another level, and I'm learning a lot. You have pegged me wrong.
