The Successes of President George Bush

Dear Reader,

I'm getting sick and tired of my fellow Americans

saying that the presidency of George W. Bush is a

failure. With the string of successes he's had,

nothing could be further from the truth. Let me list a

few:

1. He has successfully rid America of that troubling

budget surplus and turned it into a $500 billion

deficit.

2. He has successfully helped America's trading

partners have the highest trade surplus with us in

America's history.

3. He has successfully lowered the taxes for the

richest Americans and corporations at the expense of

99% of the American population.

4. He has successfully started another Viet Nam in

Iraq after lying to the whole world.

5. He has successfully pushed the price of gas up to

the highest level ever here in America.

6. He has successfully allowed American corporations

to dramatically increase their pollution.

7. He has successfully thrown about 10% of the

population out of work.

8. He has successfully allowed corporations to export

our best middle-class jobs.

9. He has successfully divided our country as never

before.

10. He has successfully driven our oldest allies away.

11. He has successfully united the terrorists as never

before (he said all along he was a uniter, not a

divider).

12. He has successfully broken his oath to uphold the

constitution of the United States of America.

13. He has successfully united Democrats (yay!) as

they haven't been for years (I told you he was a

uniter).

14. He has successfully driven me out of the

Republican party for the rest of my life.

You know, with a string of successes like that, it's a

wonder America is still standing.

Excellent post, Renee! One thing I have learned over my 15 or so years of following politics (11 as a registered voter) is that the vast majority of Democrats (no, not all)favor sucking the life out of the very people who create over 90% of the jobs in America:the so-called "wealthy."

--

Clear this up for me: Clinton's tenure when he taxed the wealthy more, and cut for the middle class, how did all those jobs get created?

Shortly after giving a tax cut, Reagan raised taxes on the wealthy did he not?

I saw Zell miller this morning on Meet the Press; Tim Russert interviewed him. He actually spelled out his objections to John Kerry without much talk about Vietnam.

Thanks for taking the time to try to explain it. I had read that thread about Dems Reps (I think I even posted on it). I just meant that I have no true first hand experience by lving in the US to really get a handle on what it's all about. Things always seem to degenerate into partisan squabbling and even among the liberals and conservatives there is quite often disagreements over certain things.

I must say that I must lean more to the Dem side of things. But then, Canada is a fairly liberal country. Even so, liberal Canadians aren't totally like the Democrats either. We have more than two parties here. I keep thinking that for a country as large and diverse as the US you should have more parties. I don't think the two party system is serving everyone very well. How about one that kind of marries the two philosophies?

The economy expanded in spite of Clinton, not because of him.

Yeah hehehe I agree.

You notice, that one standard by her applied to clinton, didn't apply to Reagan.

I do admit that was one of the better speeches that I have seen Kerry deliver, but he did drone on a bit.( A big improvement than the previous few speeches I tried to stay awake through however...)

The other thing that I noticed is how he spent 20 minutes on his service, which should be noted, but he devoted 2 minutes to the past 19 1/2 years of his life in the Senate. I guess he didnt have much to talk about there....

Miller talked mainly about Kerry's years in the Senate and what his voting record was like, and the fact that Kerry really did not have any major accomplishments while acting as a Senator.

Actually, a lot of what I've heard from economists is that the President can't be credited with a great economy or even blamed for a bad one, overall. (I think I've heard that there were things Carter could have done, but didn't- don't quote me though) There are trends in the economy and general policy won't make a huge difference. Adjustments like Greenspan makes can, and clearly do have an effect, and his lowering rates mostly likely did help stall the failing economy that was already in motion when Bush took office. Notice, they typically don't use finite words, they say 'most likely', and such. Same for Clintons time in office. He hit upon a surge in the tech industry and the dot com industry. I can remember even during the hieght of this time, there were ecomimists warning that the dot com thing was inflated and the balloon was going to burst at some point, and it did. Now, before you ask for my source, I have no articles or opinion columns to link you to. I listen to economists and financial advisor shows on the radio, that's where I've gotten this information, I couldn't tell you if these people lean right or left, just when I think I know, they say something else to make me think in the opposite direction.
