"Free" health care!

I wonder how many of you have had to live without health insurance? You say that health care is not a right? NO WONDER! You have always had a place for the bills to go other then your mailbox! How many of you have ever asked what the actual cost of your prescriptions are? Do the math! Do you have any idea what it is like to call around from doctor to doctor trying to find one who would see you WITHOUT insurance? Have you ever stood at your doctor office and humbly asked for samples instead of a prescription because u know that your $360 check wont stretch enough to cover your $280 med bill AND the doctor appt. Don't even mention medicaid! If you make enough money to buy food and scrape by...you do not qualify.

Go ahead and be technical but if you ever run into some bad luck you will see things in an entirely different light!

I really don't think we "hate" americans. We don't agree with their foreign policy, above everything else, and we feel threatened by their behaviour. Not directly, but indirectly. It's like living next door to the biggest house in the city, where the owners sometimes behave arrogantly, we know them, but they don't seem to care to get to know us, 2/3 of them think they should annex us and take over our nice back yard, and they've made a lot of ennemies in the neighbourhood by being first to build the baddest weapon out there, and now because they're building this mega security system that also somewhat protects us, they say 'you're profiting form it', and we say.. actually, no! You attract trouble our way, and those that don't like you could easily mistake us for you. We'd rather play nice and make friends in the neighbourhood and give to charities because we think that's a better than building this big fence and security system...

By the way, one thing I honestly would improve how canadians (including french-canadians like myself) is if americans took a little more time to get some correct facts about us, your most important trading partner and neighbour. And it would help if your ambassador didn't try to bully us into following you. We are a sovereign nation, and a democracy. We're allowed to disagree.

Yes you are allowed to disagree with everyone and anythign as long as it is not against the U.S.A. ;-) If you disagree with us then of course you are with them, who ever them is at the moment!!

It's because ultimately it would lead to a 'two tier' system, were some people who can afford it, could get premium care, and others would not. We strongly believe that equality is the key. Again, bear in mind that the only issue really isn't about the nature of care (since any treatment that can be provided in canada is), but an issue of waiting for some services. The real solution is to eliminate or at least reduce the wait. My understanding is that in France, they have solved that problem, and everyone gets fast treatment and services, including referrals to specialists.

"Well, aren't you just special!?"

Yes, Mom says I am!

"Based on 24 years experience in the military, that is why I'm so sure of what I've said. Et tu?"

no military experience here, except that getting the recruiters off of my butt after I took the ASVAB was like trying to get maple syrup from between your toes in sub zero weather with a one ply kleenex. (don't ask)

My beliefs are from studying cultures, anthropology, sociology, on a continuing basis. I have studied a lot of religions, some government theory, (which I am brushing up on, as I am getting out of that) and my own experience is an enhancement, but if that was all I had, then I would not know much, (Me, not you, I can only speak for me)

So, I suppose your single experience makes you the whole military? I have had female parts all my life, but hey, I can't speak for all the women on earth. See what I mean?

You can't just base facts on your own experience. All you are telling me is that you are at least middle aged, and that you can show off your superb french phrasology.

Hey Sondra!!

I am just a bit surprised that so many of the youth of our "friendly neighbors to the north" have such a skewed opinion of the U.S.

Hi mifiskie,

Thanks for your concern :o)

I was actually on vacation with the family for a couple of days visiting the zoo and an amusement park. My only problem is slighly stiff legs from the long car ride and two days of walking around.

I haven't had a chance to read all the replies in this thread over the past couple of days. I'm about to do that now. It seems the thread has gotten a lot of action since I've been away. I'm having a couple of tests this week and next but I'm not too worried and trying to stay optimisitic. The odds are that everything will be just fine.

As for you, I hear you're expecting a baby!! Congrats. Hope everything turns out well.

((((((((hugs)))))))))))))

:o)

I will try, but first something else you brought up about teenagers. I think the worst thing in the world is being a teenager. You are trying to find yourself, and your mind, and everything is against each other. Your parents think of you still as their "baby", but yet you are trying to be an adult. Honestly, most teenagers do not know anything about what they want or what they will be in life. How many of us are what we thought we would be at 15? While the youth is our future, they are still trying to find themselves and are very easily manipulated. They do not have enough life experiences to base judgements on or to react to. This does not pertain to all, but most. That is why you will find terrorists going for the younger people, and drug dealers too.

So now we come to I don't hate Americans, I just hate America. Teenagers always listen to their parents even if the parents do not think so. So alot of them repeat things that are said. As with any country, they probably do not know many Americans. You cant truly say visitors, becuase they don't have enough time to know them personally. But they do watch the news, they do listen to their elders, and they do read papers. FOr many this is the extent of knowing Americans.

Don't you think it is easier to hate a group or someone, IF you don't know them? When myson went to Morocco it was the first time these people ever met an American. So up until that point, they could say they hate Americans they didn't know any. But once they met my son, they realized he was exactly the same as them. I mean a head, a body, etc. but also someone who has a sense of humor, who gets hungry, and loves to play with the playstation. So these Morrocan teenagers learned that Americans are just normal, and not what they thought Americans were. They still hate America, becuase of policies put into place. Did you know these kids knew more about American than my son did?

It is hard to say that Morrocans are Arabs, because they were under many different foriegn rules at one time or another, and their ancenstry shows that. Like Canada, it was under french rule and you can tell with everything still has a french flavor there. Many Moroccans learn French first before Arabic and some don't even know Arabic.

This is true anywhere, but you get it everywhere. Even now I still hear from people how "the mexicans are taking over" from Americans. That is just us being human. For young adults to take on that perspective, is heart breaking. But, I know once they leave home and enter the real world, most of them change their attitude.

Do you think Mexicans in Mexico have a higher opinion of us? You know the bad always outdoes the good. I can do a million great things, but the first time I go out and shoot someone that is what I will always be remembered for. My husband is a great person, but the minute I get mad at him, all that is forgotten and I bring up the time he forgot my birthday or something else I thought was bad. It is the same here. What is the first thought you think of when you hear the word Russia? Perhaps communism, or reds? That was them a while ago, but not now. When youthink of Japan, what is the first thing you think of? Perhaps Pearl Harbor or kamikazes?

So no matter how much the U.S. has given to the world, they will be thought of what they did wrong in the world. I hope I tried to explain it a bit better, but I think I may have made a mess. hahaha.

But remember: Teenagers are horrible, vile, hateful people. They hate everyone, especially when they see a pimple. A majority of them grow out of this and turn into upstanding, couragous, and involved humans.
