Dems and Reps keep out
| Fri, 07-23-2004 - 9:51pm |
This thread is dedicated to Moderate Centrists, Independent voters, third party enthusiasts, Libertarians, Greens, and even Communists - in other words anybody who is not a Republican or a Democrat.
I bet you a cookie this thread gets hardly a friendly response! Prove me wrong!

The party of Lincoln, is now the party of Intolerance
The party of small government, is now the party of Big Government.
The party of fiscal responsibility is now the party of fiscal recklessness.
The party of less government in the peoples lives, is now the most intrusive, especially in the bedroom.
A great man once said, I didn't abandon the Democratic party, it abandoned me. Now I know exactly how he felt.

(Sorry I could not resist the jab)
I think that the average person in this country is losing out, as with both parties, it seems that the extreme voices are the ones that you hear the loudest, which is shutting about 50 - 60% of the people out, for their voice in government.
Why would he need keynote speakers?

I am going to write a book entitled "What about the rest of us?" dealing exactly with this subject on how the Democrats have moved further to the left and the Republicans have moved further to the right (at least those that get any coverage in the media that is).
The moderates are rarely heard from in either party, which has the overall largest voting base of the three segments (I would say between 45% and 60%)
Where is our message of a fiscally responsible government that is willing to do whatever necessary to protect our homeland, and to put actual working plans in place for affordable healthcare, and retirement programs without over bloating the Fedreal Government or the budget??????
Both my husband and I have voted for a third party candidate for president and in my husband's case that was when he changed his registration from Republican to Independent. He has never voted for a Republican at the top of the ticket since then. For him, it was all about the deficit, but for me, it was about giving legitimacy to a third party with a valid message.
However, I have come to believe that no matter how valid the message or well financed the campaign, a third party can never succeed in our "winner take all" system.

Those are the very conservative values I hold dear.
You've hit upon the very reasons why I work very hard to oppose the re-election of Bush. Well, the unjust and unfounded Iraq war had a lot to do with it too.
This is why I would rather have a President by committee until better candidates on both sides are running for office. (I know it would never work, but neither of the candidates do much for me, and the only reason I favor Bush is because he will be tougher on terror, and due to the tax breaks).
I am upset with Bush over the spending as well, but could never vote for a liberal who's ideas will spend even more than the current administration.

So, you're saying it's better to BORROW AND SPEND and pass the buck to my children is that it? True compassionate conservatism in the 21st century.
Where else you gonna get the money? What's left to cut?
I would bet my next paycheck, you haven't examined Kerry's proposals for spending and instead are getting your information from the Bush/Cheney campaign.
One thing about being on the fence in an election, it forces you to do your homework.
Keep calling him a MA Liberal. I'll refer to him to what he really is: A true New England Patroit.

How about cut the spending a little.
In looking at Kerry's plans, it appears as though his spending is going to outdo even GW Bush, and he has already said that he plans on rolling back some of the tax cuts, which will help the gov't short term in getting in additional money, but will hurt long term as unemployment goes back on the rise (as it historically has done with most tax increases....heck, it even started to under Bill Clinton).
