I bet you a cookie this thread gets hardly a friendly response!  Prove me wrong!

Where you gonna cut it? States are strapped with cash from sea to shining sea, Homeland Security needs more money, Education needs more money, Health Care for our Children needs more money.

Let's forget Kerry, because it's all hypothetical with him anyway, his numbers are no more or less FUZZY than Bush's were just 2 days into the General Election. You skipped right over that point and jumped right onto the DISCREDIT KERRY wagon, again.

So, What are you going to cut? Why do you advocate the fiscal policy of passing the buck to my children?

I don't enjoy paying more taxes, but I enjoy the thought of my child paying double even less.

As for tax cuts creating a better environment and better jobs?

Under clinton, we saw taxes cut for the middle class, raised for the wealthy. After which, we saw 22 million jobs created and the real bread & Butter? Wages went up an average of $7,000/year.

Under Bush: Taxes cut across the board, more than 1 million jobs lost. 5 million jobs displaced and those that had them are now making less money. Wages in the Bush Administration are down an average of $1,700/year.

I'm certainly no economist and will never pretend to know one. But I know from personal experience with credit cards in my youth: Spending money you don't have is not the way to go. We only have Bush's word that the defecit will be worked out, and nothing from Bush's actions to indicate that.

-- Both candidates are talking through their hats. The only real tax cut would be to cut payroll deductions.

If you mean payroll taxes, I agree 10000% as I have been promoting that for over 8 years in my town and many many people agree with me.

With regards to the highest people having their taxes increased, as long as it is the people making in excess of perhaps $600,000 or more a year, then I may support a limited increase, but Kerry is talking about raising taxes on anyone making $200,000 a year and over.

With regards to the States, too many have been living high off the hog for too long, without having to worry about truly balancing their state budgets because they could alwarys rely on the Federal $$$ to bail them out.....well times are changing, and states should have to curb their appetites as well.

If they'd just stop taking money out of my paycheck in the first place it would help more than giving it back after they've kept it (and the interest it earns) for months.

I believe he is talking about revoking the tax cuts for people making over $200,000 a year, not raising their taxes.

Nice try :0

But the GOP leadership will make the most of this chance to say Kerry will 'Raise your taxes'. If the end result is that they go up, they're raised.

Has anyone here been influenced by either of the conventions and their speakers to actually select a candidate for president?

If not, were you already decided or are you waiting for the debates?

I've actually been reading everything I can about what's going on and I found a website that has video's from the democratic convention (http://www.dems2004.org) and could watch that and I've watched a little bit of the Republican one. I can't wait for the debate cause I think that'll help me with my decision even more. I'm already for Kerry but I'm still reading everything I can and hearing what other people say etc. I'm not mainly basing my opinion on what others say but just from sharing info and everything. Since this is my first time voting I want to be totally sure about who my vote goes to and I don't want to have any regrets. XOXO.

I don't really know what to believe about the whole Republican / Democrat choice. On the one hand, each party has some sort of truth, and each has shown a propensity for corruption as all politicians everywhere do. I think it all comes down to a fundamental worldview about life -- the Republicans carry the 'flag' of the old Wild West men: independence, freedom, hard-work, white/black hell/heave good/evil dichotomy without doubts or questions. The Democrats on the other hand represent the modern outgrowth of old-world intellectuals: people are inter-dependent and therefore freedom has to do with a lot of social rules and inequities, and hard-work is good if you are going in the right direction only, and good and evil are not so hard to tell apart. Both are I think sincere but sincerity isn't enough if you are wrong. The thing is that both parties would have everyone believe that you HAVE to make a choice between the two, one or either - which is a lie.
