"Senator John Kerry said on Friday he would seek to persuade voters over the next three months that he would do a "better job than George Bush" in protecting the nation from terrorism..." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/25/politics/campaign/25KERR.html?ei=5065&en=789ba5a17982cc66&ex=1091332800&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print&position=

"In response to a question, Mr. Kerry said he has given no thought to the possibility of a terrorist attack taking place in the midst of the presidential campaign. "I don't think about it; I can't control it," he said." http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2004/07/i_cant_conrol_i.html

He certainly can inspire confidence.

Our worse deficit in history in Canada was under our conservative prime minister Mulroney..

yes, and France and the UK should have gone in and stopped slavery in the US...Talk about horrible and systemic behaviour. Much worse than communism in my book.

One thing I can agree with you.. :)

But while on the topic of elections, why in the world do american elections drag on so long, and why aren't campaign costs capped? Here campaigns last about one month, and candidates spend a fraction of what typical candidates do in the US. Maybe it has something to do with why the number of people who vote in the US is much lower than that in Canada. It just drags on for so long that people are sick of the whole thing!

I saw it on TV, in an interview. he talked about rebuilding the alliances with other western countries, better intelligence, better communications between the various organizations (international and intra-national)..

There was no way that the UK was going to come back into the US after losing in the revolitionary war. It would have been to costly both in manpower and in money to keep the troops supplied over the distance of the Atlantic Ocean.

Besides, what does this have to do with the fact that Saddam Hussein unconditionally surrendered, or is that point escaping you somehow?

Rebuilding an alliance with France that never really existed? That will be rich.

The French were not even really our allies during WWII. In fact, Charles DeGaulle resented deeply the fact that he needed the assistance of both the British and the US to free his country from the Vichy Government and the Nazi's.

Check your history on this. It is actually quite interesting.

It is like our system of government....overblown and bloated.

Instead of streamlining the system, our bureaucrats increase the bureaucracy, which in turn increases the cost of running the government. It is a horrible catch 22, but the system somehow still works decently, but it is not perfect.

And?

The worst time this country has been through in recent history is under a Democratic President.

What is your point? I didnt realize that Canada had anything to do with the United States.

Generally Canada cannot be compared to the US as the types of Governments are slightly different. also the social programs differ between the two as well. Finally, Canada does not really have a military of any large significance for which it must pay to upkeep, as they rely on the protection from the US / UK etc.
