"Senator John Kerry said on Friday he would seek to persuade voters over the next three months that he would do a "better job than George Bush" in protecting the nation from terrorism..." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/25/politics/campaign/25KERR.html?ei=5065&en=789ba5a17982cc66&ex=1091332800&partner=MYWAY&pagewanted=print&position=

"In response to a question, Mr. Kerry said he has given no thought to the possibility of a terrorist attack taking place in the midst of the presidential campaign. "I don't think about it; I can't control it," he said." http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2004/07/i_cant_conrol_i.html

He certainly can inspire confidence.

<< Communism is in some ways a form of Government sanctioned slavery. >> Hadn't quite thought of it that way before. I agree.

This being said, the intent of communism was not to abuse someone else and benefit from their labour. It was a bad concept, and there have been some very corrupt leaders in that system. But I still see slavery to be a greater evil. But communism was a terrible just as theocracies are and are dictatorships (although some dictators are more terrible than others). I think the only system that can work is democracy, in society that balances taking care of citizens's basic needs with capitalism. off soap box...

Nice try but you missed the mark. Canada uses its military whenever the UN calls (for actual peacekeeping....not what the US seems to think peacekeeping means) and as surveillance along its coast.

Canada was involved 3 years ahead of the US in the boh the last two WWs and was there in Korea as soon as the UN called.

You seem to be under the impression that Canada doesn't have a military because we rely on the US/UK for protection, as you express it. Naaaaah! Wrong!

We tend to fear the US more than rely on it. Even your ambassador to Canada has issued thinly disguised threats to Canada when we didn't go along with the US in Iraq and most recently when the US didn't like Canada's drug policies. Those of us who have been around for a while also remember threats regarding VietNam and Canada's social programs.

During the cold war it was abundantly clear that American/Russian hostilities would wipe Canada off the map as an afterthought.

We're not relying on you for protection, we just refuse to play your stupid game.

Surely some print media has a record of such an important statement from a presidential candidate.

Of course they were...they were still a sovereing possesion of Great Britain, and since Great Britain was in the war, so was Canada......sorry cant pull the wool over someones eyes that knows a bit about history.

Canada (the government) is very happy with the fact that they share a common border with the US, and due to the proximity of the two countries, they can count on the US to assist in defending the country. If you believe otherwise, you would be naive to do so.

You realize that our biggest threat are those guns that flow freely from the US? Our violent crime rate is three times lower than yours, but it could be much better if it wasn't for all those guns coming in illegally through our border. And americans worry about pot coming to canada, when quite of few of their own presidents have smoked it. Yeah, that's really a threat compared to automatic weapons..

Sorry, but we ARE a sovereign nation. Your view of history and our involvement in previous wars is totally skewed.

Maybe they should be more concerned about the lack of guards along your own north western coast. One part-time guard for something like 100 miles? haven't you heard how lousy coasts are guarded in the US?

Nice try about the involvment in the previous wars pitch.

Please go back and research your history. Until 1982 your country was still under the rule of Great Britain and Parliament still had some control in Canada with respect to the laws, etc.

Also, I hardly think that the US is openly shipping guns illegally across the border to Canada, so it seems like you are experiencing the same thing that we here in the US are, and that is the fact that criminals will be able to get their hands on guns no matter what laws are passed with regards to legal gun ownership, so that blows the gun control measure out of the window.

Yes, which is why I fully support putting our military on BOTH borders to seal it tight....especially the Canadian border near Quebec, as many of the 9/11 hijackers entered the country through Maine and the Northeast after entering Canada.

It seems as though your borders are just as pourous as ours, which is why we have to be all the more careful.....with regards to the Mexican border, that situation is a total disaster as Mexico has absolutely no control of who enters or exists their country. At least in Canada your immigration officials try to make an effort as do ours.
