Bush campaign obsessed with Kerry

Have a look at the two websites.  The first thing you see on the Bush site is a big picture of Kerry and the lead story about Kerry’s “makeover”, and links to lots of Kerry bashing.  I get the feeling that Bush wants to distract from his lack of ideas.

Look at the Kerry website and there is not a word about Bush, only what Kerry plans to do for the country.

I may not like Kerry very much, and I may wish that the Dems had chosen a better candidate, but at least he's not directly engaging in smear tactics, and at least his website gives information on exactly what it is he aims to do.

Anyway, the 527s have been closely coordinated with Kerry's campaign and high level staff keeps moving from the campaign to various 527s & vice versa.

No, No, no!

I think you like getting me worked up in debates. But in all seriousness, this constant source of misinformation and misrepresentation of the facts is going on too long.

It's a strict violation of FEC law for Kerry/Edwards or Bush/Cheney to coordinate with these organizations.

You're going to use the example of Kerry's former campaign manager (Who, had Kerry sitting in last place behind Kucinich/Sharpton in the polls when he quit!) going to work for a PAC, what does he have in Common with the Kerry campaign, and a dozen other pacs and some 80 million Americans? To oust George Bush.

I don't care that you support Bush, I don't care that you make effort after effort to discredit John Kerry, but as a Communittee leader on these forums, you should make some sort of effort to not post the kind of rhetoric that mirrors Sean Hannity or Al Franken and set a higher example of constructive political debate, or drop the CL tag.

Let the NON-Cl's post their partisan poison.

I don't repeat empty rhetoric, and I don't have as much time to listen to talk radio as you aparently do.

"Those interested in researching 527 activity face an equally daunting task. The IRS' own Internet-based disclosure system, which was revamped on June 30, 2003, still contains filings from committees that never should have been included. The system also makes it difficult to determine the true amounts raised and spent by 527 committees by failing to collect disclosure reports under a single identification number. In many instances, a single 527 group has been assigned more than one identifier by the agency, each of which may contain multiple reports. " http://www.publicintegrity.org/report.aspx?aid=169&sid=300

"Skirting campaign finance laws

Prior to the passage of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act last year, many of the most well-known 527 committees had ties to federal lawmakers and their political action committees. For example, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., maintained his Keep Our Majority PAC's 527 account. Democratic senators John Kerry of Massachusetts, John Edwards of North Carolina and Bob Graham of Florida, along with Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri, all operated 527s as they prepared bids for the presidency in 2004.

To maintain their status as 527s, these committees could not directly coordinate with any federal candidate. But they could spend money in ways that ultimately improve their sponsors' chances in the 2004 election. For example, Kerry's 527 committee, Citizen Soldier Fund, gave more than $256,000 to candidates and parties in New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolinathree key Democratic primary states. That same idea was a topic of an article in Business Week about two months ago.

I read the article, and while it did make sense, logically you would think the opposite to be true. If I can find the article, I will post the main points that were in it.

It made me a little confused.

Oh yeah, there was one 527 PAC I know of that ran a commercial for Bush:

It showed Bush at Ground Zero meeting with the Fire Fighters and begged the question: Could Kerry display this kind of leadership?

Seeing how crappy the Bush campaign has been run in 2004, this isn't surprising. The Firefighters have overwhelmingly endorsed John Kerry as thier choice for President.

The jist I got out of it: Outsourcing is a neccessary part of the global economy.

But you can't talk to John Q Public in that manner, you must keep it simple and accurate. When the public hears: Outsourcing is good, they freak.

<< The Firefighters have overwhelmingly endorsed John Kerry as thier choice for President. >>

Are we talking about all the individual firefighters or the presidents of the Firefighter's Unions, such as Harold Schaitberger, the president of the largest firefighter's union and a few widows of 9/11 firefighters who also happen to be Democratic activists who criticized Bush back in March.

You mean this guy?

Dear IAFF Member:

Our nation and our profession are at a crossroads. Our economy is in shambles. Unemployment continues to grow and 41 million Americans are without health insurance. A balanced federal budget and a $5 trillion surplus have been supplanted by reckless spending and record federal deficits. The economy is wreaking havoc with state and municipal budgets, which is resulting in professional fire fighter lay-offs for the first time in decades.

While the IAFF was the first union to support George W. Bush as our Commander-In-Chief after 9/11, we cannot support him as a President who opposes programs to hire new fire fighters to ease staffing shortages and improve public safety. Nor can we back a President who refuses to fund the pressing needs of first responders in programs such as the FIRE Act. This is the same President who opposes your right to bargain collectively and supports contracting our fire and EMS services to the private sector. We simply can't afford another four years of George Bush.

The IAFF Executive Board and I recognize that we can only endorse a candidate who champions our issues and also embraces the values, integrity and moral standards you do as professional fire fighters. This candidate must be someone you can trust and take pride in supporting.

Senator John F. Kerry meets all of these requirements. He is a decorated combat veteran who served with distinction in Vietnam, winning a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. As a U.S. Senator, he has fought for middle-class Americans for nearly 20 years and has championed our issues since the day he took office. As a sportsman, Kerry supports the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms and, as a former prosecutor, he has been tough on crime.

There has been no stronger voice in Congress on fire fighter issues. On collective bargaining, the FIRE Act, overtime rights, health care, prescription drug coverage and retirement benefits, John Kerry has been there for America's fire fighters. He even unveiled the First Defenders Program, a plan calling for federal funding to hire 100,000 new fire fighters to meet nationwide staffing shortfalls and implement NFPA staffing standards in every fire department across the country.

I am proud to announce that the IAFF Executive Board has unanimously endorsed a true American hero and friend to all professional fire fighters, Senator John Kerry, for President of the United States.

This endorsement isn't about partisanship or party. It's about electing a candidate who has always been on the front lines for us. He knows how to lead under fire. In the coming months, we will explain in greater detail why John Kerry has earned the IAFF endorsement. In the meantime, please read the enclosed flyer and visit www.firefightersforkerry.org for more information. I invite you to join me in working to elect a Presidential candidate who embodies our values and will fight for our future.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Harold A. Schaitberger

General President
