Kerry meets some real marines... ut oh..

July 31, 2004 -- SCRANTON, Pa. — John Kerry's heavily hyped cross-country bus tour stumbled out of the blocks yesterday, as a group of Marines publicly dissed the Vietnam War hero in the middle of a crowded restaurant.

Kerry was treating running mate Sen. John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, to a Wendy's lunch in Newburgh, N.Y., for their 27th wedding anniversary — an Edwards family tradition — when the candidate approached four Marines and asked them questions.

The Marines — two in uniform and two off-duty — were polite but curt while chatting with Kerry, answering most of his questions with a "yes, sir" or "no, sir."

But they turned downright nasty after the Massachusetts senator thanked them "for their service" and left.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands," one Marine said, adding, "I'm 100 percent against ."

A sergeant with 10 years of service under his belt said, "I speak for all of us. We think that we are doing the right thing in Iraq," before saying he is to be deployed there in a few weeks and is "eager" to go and serve.

The Marines — all of whom serve at nearby Stewart Air Force Base — wouldn't give their names.

"I hope you share your sensitivities with Rush et al. "

Your comment jumped out at me for obvious reasons, and so I felt compelled to say something. I went beyond the typical inflammatory stuff of politics. I was not offended as a Republican, I was offended as an American. As far as Rush goes, the radio station I listen too does carry him, and I listen to the program just before his, a Rebpublican lady and Democratic/Independent gentleman. If I don't turn it off right way when he comes on, I turn it off with the first idiot crack he makes. I don't care for his 'sense of humor' or what ever he chooses to call it. And yes, I've e-mailed him and Sean Hannity regarding this issue. I don't find distortions of truth, humor at anothers expense, hicroposy (sp), or out and out lies helpful to get ones opion or beliefs across. It really only makes the person look small in my eyes. I hope I'm making sense, and don't sound preachy, although I'm sure I do, my kids accuse me of it all the time. : )

"So what did Kerry do wrong here... That he imposed.. Give me a break...Find some real issues to debate which will help American lives.."

Kerry tried to pretend first that he was like "regular folks" and went to Wendy's for lunch... turns out his real lunch was ordered from a 5 star yacht club nearby and was waiting on the bus... then the fraud Kerry is he tried to use Marines eating lunch (real Marines, eating a real lunch at Wendy's like millions of Americans do every day) as a political prop for his candidacy. He has used images of swift boat vets also against their express wishes... implying support for him... the Marines should NOT have been put into a political situation... the UCMJ really discourages this... and he picked on NCO's... heck, he didn't even offer to pick up their tab... what a cheapskate... but then on the waitress board... it appears Kerry is listed as a cheapskate by numerous waitresses.

Am I the only one who got that this was about the Edwards' anniversary and really had nothing to do with Kerry?

"Am I the only one who got that this was about the Edwards' anniversary and really had nothing to do with Kerry? In fact, the news report I saw showed Edwards going up to the soldiers, not Kerry."

You probably aren't the only one... my guess is 20 to 25% of the electorate is so gullible as to believe this wasn't a stop to show Kerry with "regular" folks, eating "normal" food. In fact, Kerry isn't "regular" folks, and doesn't eat as most do.

As to Kerry's stiffing waitresses... well he claims to want people to have a living wage, and waitresses depend on tips... when he stiffs them he hurts vulnerable women... the very people he claims to want to help... I thought the contradiction was at least of some passing interest... at least at a Wendy's he's not expected to tip he got that part right :-)

We all know full well that this was a photo-op.

You don't have to be a Klingon to be different from average folks... at least Paris Hilton has some fun with it... Kerry has 5 (formerly 6) mansions, a billion bucks hanging around the house, flies his barber in on a private jet for a touch up, owns a private jet, has a fleet of SUV's... goes skiing on a private mountain... yachting in a million dollar boat which takes over 700 gallons to fuel for an afternoons cruise around the Nantucket mansion. The average person doesn't have waitstaff, helpstaff, personal staff, office staff, staff staff... Kerry does... he's surrounded by sycophants.

Oddly Democrats didn't care much for war hero Bush Sr. vs draft dodger Clinton, or war hero Dole vs draft dodger Clinton... thus I have to wonder why Democrats have any concern with the mock hero Kerry. Any hero I have surely isn't a self professed war criminal.

Check me out, I am a woman and I refuse to tip ANYONE who doesn't give me the service I require. I do not care what the service is, if they are not doing their job, then they don't get paid. I know a little something about tips, I used to be a bartender too many years ago. I have also tipped my local Jiffy Lube mechanic for not charging me on something he could have easily.

So have you asked these waitresses if they deserved tips or not? Probably not, you are not into asking or answering questions.

But you didn't. My sister has been a manager at Wendy's for over 10 years. Over the years she has recieved monetary tips, and other things that may constitute as tips (free car wash coupons, free oil changes, etc.) She recieved $50 from Bernie Mac (he is from Chicago and he loves Chicago). When she worked in Indianapolis, she got me almost the whole Pacer and Colts teams autographs, and the news stations personalities often frequented there.

Can you please explain to me what you consider normal folks? For years, I thought it was normal that everyone ate pickled pigs feet(hillbilly father), and I am sure there are others who will say eating Kentucky oysters are normal (if you don't know please do not ask). What is normal to one is not normal to others. To me regular folks eat White Castles and bbq on the weekends. But that is normal for ME, and for other "normal folks" that is abnormal.

Debate issues that are important, not what people do or don't eat!

Normal folks are people without a billion dollars handy... without 5 mansions, without a million dollar boat, without a fleet of SUV's without large staffs for all the above... who don't fly around in private jets, or fly in barbers via private jet for touch ups... normal folks usually work or are retired from work and havn't made a living as a gigolo to billionares... normal folks will often dine at their own expense and without hundreds of photographers to take pictures of them being normal.

They cannot. If they could, they'd be looking at their own record and they don't want to do that.

When you support Bush, it's all about how much slime you can throw. Not what they can do for us for another 4 years.

Myself, I welcome the discussion of Bush's 2001 - Present record as well as Bush's NEW IDEAS for a second term.
