July 31, 2004 -- SCRANTON, Pa. — John Kerry's heavily hyped cross-country bus tour stumbled out of the blocks yesterday, as a group of Marines publicly dissed the Vietnam War hero in the middle of a crowded restaurant.

Kerry was treating running mate Sen. John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, to a Wendy's lunch in Newburgh, N.Y., for their 27th wedding anniversary — an Edwards family tradition — when the candidate approached four Marines and asked them questions.

The Marines — two in uniform and two off-duty — were polite but curt while chatting with Kerry, answering most of his questions with a "yes, sir" or "no, sir."

But they turned downright nasty after the Massachusetts senator thanked them "for their service" and left.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands," one Marine said, adding, "I'm 100 percent against ."

A sergeant with 10 years of service under his belt said, "I speak for all of us. We think that we are doing the right thing in Iraq," before saying he is to be deployed there in a few weeks and is "eager" to go and serve.

The Marines — all of whom serve at nearby Stewart Air Force Base — wouldn't give their names.

If you have experience as a waitress... I'm sure you're aware there are sites available to discuss being stiffed from customers... even celebrity customers... usually to publicly diss Kerry requires a description of the event :-)

Ok that is your version of normal, but that is not others version of normal. Just because your version is your version, doesnt make it the right version. Why dont you find out what Bill Gates think normal is? Why not ask Charlie Manson what his version of normal is?

You can not honestly beleive that what you think is the absolute right for everyone? Things like normal, love, free, happiness, etc. are never absolute and they mean differently for everyone.

Sorry back in my day as a waitress, there was no *gasp* computers!!! Yup I have been stiffed plenty, but almost 95% of the time it was becuase I did not offer the service that was required. There was only one job, serve the beer, and at times I just slacked off by talking to others. My bad, I understood that and didn't complain about it. That is the job.

Customers I have had: Axl Rose we went up to one of his places in Wisconsin for the weekend awesome, 2 member of New Kids on the Block (for those of you who remember it was at our bar they got arrested at),Enuf Z'Nuff (sp?), Nick Nolte, ohhhhhhhh I remember the nite some of the Orioles came in the bar after a Sox game(not a pretty site!) But I always was well tipped by them, but I deserved it!

Well if you've got a billion or so... a fleet of SUV's... various staff... private mountains to ski on... a nice large yacht with crew... private plane... and have hundreds of photographers snap shots of you dining at a fast food restaurant... well ok... if that's normal to you... kudos... I'll stand by my definition... it isn't normal to most people :-) Thus it isn't normal :-)

Well I have great respect for waitresses and waiters... it's tough and honest work. You may be interested in seeing some of the sites where they go to discuss stuff now... it's interesting :-)

Back to the military. I had several military men and women pass me as I registered voters in my Kerry hat, t-shirt, and pin (with Kerry stickered clipboard) at a Metro station on Friday afternoon. I had one Army (sorry I don't know ranks) smile and give me a secretive thumbs up sign, and a few more look me in the eye with their military stare, then smile. So obviously not all military will be voting Republican.

Also read an interesting article written by the editor for the Army Times, Navy Times, etc, that said basically, don't be surprised if during this election the military votes much like it did during the height of the Vietnam war. He wouldn't release their poll numbers, but gave the idea that Kerry would be getting their vote, just that nobody could admit it.

And yet another article where the Navy officers in Florida were taking enlistees to register and making it more than clear they were expected to register as Republicans. So perhaps, the Navy remains more Red than the rest.

All speculation until November 2nd.

Just curious mnmgla... are you in the D.C. area? I've noticed lots of folks around the stations here in Kerry gear registering voters. :-)

Once again, let us focus on the real issue. About going to Wendy's if you had listen to Elizabeth Edward's speeach, she said it was hers and Edwards tradition to go to Wendy's on their Anniversary.
