July 31, 2004 -- SCRANTON, Pa. — John Kerry's heavily hyped cross-country bus tour stumbled out of the blocks yesterday, as a group of Marines publicly dissed the Vietnam War hero in the middle of a crowded restaurant.

Kerry was treating running mate Sen. John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, to a Wendy's lunch in Newburgh, N.Y., for their 27th wedding anniversary — an Edwards family tradition — when the candidate approached four Marines and asked them questions.

The Marines — two in uniform and two off-duty — were polite but curt while chatting with Kerry, answering most of his questions with a "yes, sir" or "no, sir."

But they turned downright nasty after the Massachusetts senator thanked them "for their service" and left.

"He imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands," one Marine said, adding, "I'm 100 percent against ."

A sergeant with 10 years of service under his belt said, "I speak for all of us. We think that we are doing the right thing in Iraq," before saying he is to be deployed there in a few weeks and is "eager" to go and serve.

The Marines — all of whom serve at nearby Stewart Air Force Base — wouldn't give their names.

Well that does it, if Kerry can't tip then my vote is going to the guy that lied about his military past I mean, can't PROVE it anyway, because one’s tipping habits is far more important than ones truthfulness!

Can we be any pettier?

As we have been treated to tallies of how many times the President fell off his bicycle, it seems to fit right in.

<< What do you think a political candidate is going to eat when spending a month on a bus? If he ate at Wendy's everyday, he'd have a gut the size of Rush Limbuagh's. (I know...they have a salad bar...) >>

1. We've already discussed the size of Rush's gut which has been a quite reasonable size for a number of years now. Perhaps you were thinking of Michael Moore?

2. No one expects Mr. Heinz Kerry to slum for an entire month. It was the special occasion of the Edwardses' anniversary that prompted the visit to Wendy's, and it was the Heinzes who decided to horn in on the event.

So Bush parades in a flight suit, come on!

If Bush actually did go to Vietnam, and even if i didnt like his leadership, I would never call him a mock hero. There should be an automatic line of respect for someone that has actually been in combat, democrat or republican, in service to this country.

That is just way out of line and most of the stuff you bring up are as a result of

What do you call the vets who were with him at the convention? You left them out of your post entirely. That's not an accurate picture at all.

If he didn't deserve the medals, the chain of command shouldn't have signed the paperwork, but they did.

A few days ago I posted a long message comparing their military service, you didn't bother to respond to it, why? I'll try again here.

I don't get why anyone tries to diminish Kerry's military record in this contest. Are you trying to say he didn't do much compared to Bush! LMAO

Let's see, Kerry volunteered for 2 tours of active duty. Bush somehow got into the Guard. BTW, I am old enough to know it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get a slot in the Guard then.

Kerry went for officer training school. Bush got put ahead of other more qualified candidates for flight school.

Kerry volunteered for Vietnam. Bush did not.

Kerry volunteered for swift boat duty. Bush volunteered for.....Alabama. He did see a dentist there, but no one else saw him.

Kerry saved the life of Jim Rassmun under enemy fire, he took the boat back to get Jim, & pulled Jim back into the boat, despite an arm injury. Jim disagrees that this is insignificant. Bush missed his flight physical.

Kerry got a couple medals, let's see, bronze star, silver star, 3 purple hearts, 2 Presidential Unit Citations and a National Defense Medal. Bush got not rated, because no one had seen him around.

Kerry also served in the reserves. Bush took his last flight physical in May 1971, & never flew after that. He was released from duty Oct 1973, 8 months early. What did he do for his country from 1971 to 1973 if he wasn't flying? Why was he released 8 months early during war? So Kerry extended his service voluntarily. Bush snuck out early, after not bothering to spend a few weekends to fly around the blue skies of Texas.

So what's not impressive?

< It just doesn't look too impressive when every living soul in your chain of command says you're unfit to be the commander-in-chief, when your fellow officers say you mischaracterized your actions in your reports, >
