NEW YORK The Pantagraph newspaper in Bloomington, Ill. has sent a letter to Michael Moore, drafted by its lawyer, citing him for copyright infringement, admonishing him for his "unauthorized...misleading" use of the paper in his film "Fahrenheit 9/11," and asking for an apology.
It is also seeking compensatory damages of exactly one dollar.
"While we are highly flattered to be included in the movie," said the newspaper's President and Publisher Henry Bird, "we are a bit disturbed that our pages were misrepresented."
Early in the movie, according to the paper, a large headline appears in the film, purporting to be from a Dec. 19, 2001 edition of the paper, and reading "Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election." The paper contends that the headline actually appeared on Dec. 5, 2001, in much smaller type, and above a letter to the editor, hardly a factual news story or editorial.
The letter to Moore from the paper calls this a "misrepresentation of facts." The newspaper said it had been unsuccessful in attempts to reach Moore through his film company, Lion's Gate, by phone and email.
"In an instance that The Pantagraph prints material in which there is a mistake it is corrected," the letter to Moore reads. "It is our hope that you would adhere to the same high ethical standard."
Moore could not be reached for comment.

So you are getting news that we Americans have not been getting. As I showed, the banner, according to the white house, was meant about the actual ship Bush was on and nothing to do with the war itself. Hey just posting the news, not making this up.
But then I got to re-reading your post, and you said "it was immediately understood", so was that what was said on the newscast or was that just an opinion? Because many here and abroad "understood" that Bush was saving us from an Iraqi threat, which never was there in the first place. Many here and abroad "understood" that Bush said many things which, were never said, only implied.
I understand completely.
I am planning (and have been talking non-stop about) painting all the rooms in our home.
Yesterday when my husband got home from work I greeted him with a big banner reading "Mission Accomplished". I'd invited 2 neighbors to stand on the lawn with me and old Mrs. Nada even agreed to do a little cheer, complete with pom-poms and mid-air splits.
When my husband got inside he was So surprised. He actually thought I had painted the house, so I had to explain that "No, I just bought a brush - I thought you understood."
The above is not a true story but I'm sure you understand that.

And I was going to ask you what colors you are planning to paint and if you were doing anything special with the ceiling beyond 'ceiling white' ! Darn.
It takes virtually no effort to discredit Moore or Kerry, one merely needs to take the weakest look at their records.

Oh really now?
Moore == Irrelevant, so who cares.
Kerry, You people have spent 120 million in your attempts to 'Easily' discredit him. All that's become of it is watching Bush's approval rating fall by 15 points.
So, maybe a little more than 'Virtually no' effort is going to be needed. Gee, how about: Stop running your mouths and start running the country! Maybe then, the approval rating will go up.
But you people obviously don't care about that, only about slime.
When I see that banner, backing up the words: Major combat operations are over.
It's as easy as 2+2.
Major combat over? Not by a longshot. The insurgents fihting the US troops now are more deadly, more ogranized and more entrenched than in the first days of the war.
Yeah, but let's worry about more important things like discrediting other people.
As to Bush's approval rating... well as I cited earlier today in the 2004 election forum USA Today indicates it was Bush who got the bounce from the DNC convention not Kerry... turns out among likely voters Bush went up 2% after the DNC convention... please hold more of em... another 5 and Kerry will be down by double digits :-) Hahaha
I think you're confused.
Head to head polls of likely voters, is not THE BUSH APPROVAL RATING.
But hey, read into the polls. The polls are done to likely voters, which means they voted in the 2000 Presidential Election, they're VERY PREDICATIVE aren't they? Yeah, that's why I frequently cite those poll numbers.
There's The Bush approval rating and one other 'slightly' important one: Do you feel the country is headed in the right direction.
Post those 2 numbers and keep laughing.
