Fox News, Outfoxed and Liberals

Ok, I'm not sure I understand the nature of all the criticism Fox News gets from THE LIBERAL side of the fence.

I have Directv, I watch 4 news channels regularly (CNN,MSNBC,FOXNEWS,Headline News) but watch CNN the most.

It's been said that Fox is unfair and unbalanced but I do not see this. While some of their SHOWS are very right leaning (Hannity, O'reilly, North), the ACTUAL News that's reported Ihave never considered to be: Unfair or Unbalanced.

Thoughts?

I would agree with you, but then I ask myself, is that b/c I do lean to the right? When I used to watch network TV I clearly saw a bias in some of the anchors, mainly the national ones like Peter Jennings. Was that b/c I was more sensitive to his non-verbal communciation that those that lean left? I have to say though, just last week I saw Fox reporting something negative about the White House before the other channels brought up anything (I was having an intense channel flipping day while ironing).

I agree with both of you, except the (abc) part. And I will add that as left leaning as I am, I watch Hannity and O'reily. But I watch knowing this is their POV not the news. When I turn on Fox news I never see anything to suggest that they lean right or left.

I lean pretty far to the left, especially on socal issues. I have no complaints about how Fox presents the News.

NOw, much can be said for some of their shows like Hannity and Colmes etc. but that's not the NEWS, that's opinion and spin.

Before Fox arrived on the scene and even today the media has been bashed big-time as being liberal. I listen to Rush occasionally (what can I say, I'm a masochist) and the word media is never uttered without the adjective liberal.

As for Fox, they do carry a lot of right wing talk shows, several of them aren't really "news" shows and it gets a little tiresome to see them on a NEWS channel.

I do believe there is a bias in the stories they chose to air. But I think the stories themselves are fair and accurate.

I think one of the problems I have with Fox is that a lot of people watch the biased talk shows and think they're getting news. Especially with taglines like "Fair and balanced", "We report, you decide" and "No spin zone" are being touted every few minutes. One reason I can watch the shows (or listen to Rush) without pulling my hair out, is that I respect the fact that these people are espousing their own opinions (except when Rush makes childish jokes like Terry McAwful...I don't think I've ever heard him use the guy's real name...that just bothers me). But there are plenty of people duped into thinking this is "news"

I do agree that Fox's actual news coverage seems to be balanced. No more or less biased than CNN...and it seems they have more acutal news than CNN...especially on the weekends. (I don't know about everyone else, but I am SICK to DEATH of every Larry King show being about the Peterson case)

Just my 2 cents worth

Hannity & Colmes presents both sides, but I am a little sick of the bickering that happens on that show too often.

O'Reilly is probably the most fair news analyst on the station, and perhaps on any of the cable news channels today. The only person that would compare to O'Reilly in my opinion is Tim Russert. Both try to keep their politics to themselves and out of the debate, and both try to call people when those people are presenting "loose" facts.

Oliver North doesnt have a political talkshow. His is about wartime, and the heroes that emerged from the wars. When he is on the other shows, you have to remember that he is a Conservative, so of course, his views will lean towards the right.

I think we agree about O'Reilly and Russert, they're both tough but fair. O'Reilly has slightly more of a sense of humor about him, but Russert isn't trying to sell "meet the press" stuff at the end of every hour... personally I've had it with "factor gear".

Oh please, Hannity injects pure poison and equates Liberalism with Terrorism. Taking him seriously makes as much sense as taking Limbaugh seriously on ESPN NFL Countdown.

I think Fox would get a lot less grief if they dropped that "fair and balanced" tag line. The use it constantly, but it should only be used in the context of the actual NEWS portions in my view.

The mantra just doesn't ring true when you tout "fair and balanced" and then cut straight to Sean Hannity on some rant about liberals.

It's likely to late for them to re-brand though.
