Kerry lied to get purple heart?

The records should be able to shed some light on this if Kerry chooses to open them to the public.

'Larry Thurlow, the skipper of a boat trailing Kerry's, says in the book that he saw Kerry suffer a buttocks wound earlier that day in 1969 when he was hit by fragments from his own grenade while trying to destroy a Viet Cong rice cache.

"He dishonestly transferred the time and cause of the injury to coincide with the action later in the day and claimed that the cause of the injury was the mine exploding during the action," the book claims.

In Kerry's version of the incident, he says a mine struck his swift boat - wounding him in the buttocks and arm.

Kerry maintains he braved enemy fire from both shores to race to the bow of the boat and pluck Rassman, who had fallen overboard, out of the water.

But, the book says, "Many participants in the incident state that neither weapons fire nor a mine explosion occurred near Kerry during the incident.

"Unless one believes in the amazing coincidence that Kerry got two wounds in the same place on the same day, he lied to get the Purple Heart," the authors say.

Rassman is backing Kerry's presidential candidacy and he supports Kerry's version of the rescue.

It really comes down to "he said", "he said" and I believe Kerry and the man he rescued. For people to use a purple heart as a weapon against a candidate is despicable.

Logically what you say is simple. To just give the records to whoever. But when someone is just there to dig out dirt, they will find dirt on some other stuff and it will never end. I think Kerry should just go on with his campaigning and let dirt diggers keep digging and wallowing in it. I am just fed up with this. I think it is enough that he went to war. He still has first hand experience of war and combat irrespective of medals. As some one had said long time ago on this board, purple hearts were given for even minor injuries and even for injury that may have occured by jumping out of helicopter. So if his record are analysed then to be fair to him every other purple heart wiiner's records should be analyzed and compared. See how ridiculous this sounds???

Some Bush supporters seem so blinded by their desire to win political advantage that they are capable of defending the most incredible mistakes this man has made. It would be interesting to see what they could do if they had someone worthwhile to defend.

Just imagine if George had been awarded a purple heart. Imagine if Kerry had a poor academic record and couldn't remember exactly what he did in the National Guard, or if he'd used cocaine, Imagine if Teresa had killed someone with her car. Imagine if Kerry had sent our military to war and bombed Iraq because his vice-president told him to.

Just imagine........

You want Kerry's records, didn't you know they are available? And I think it's only fair that we be allowed to see similar details on GWB.

I would agree, excpet for one thing. Other purple heart winners are not running on their record, and are not running for President.

Kerry has not released the corroberating reports on his medical records to verify the conditions for his purple hearts.

If he doesnt want to release them, then he has to come to the realization that there are those that will question the details behind those medals. I say, release the entire record, and shut the people up that are trying to criticize him.

Do some of your own research regarding how swift boats operate. In a nutshell:

Swift boats can only hold 4-5 men at a time. They're like tanks. They all work in a group. Thus, the people on the boats that work the same area become very close and they see the same action.

The NYT is being disingenious it its assertions above.

Why is Kerry so afraid of these Swift Vets? What is he trying to hide? Why is he calling all these vets liars? Why did he sic lawyers on them?

If you will remember, Kerry spent roughly 120 days of service in Viet Nam. He has spent the rest of his life denouncing that war, proclaiming atrocities being carried out that can not be verified, villified ALL Viet Nam vets and now has the gall to run as a supposed *war hero*.

He has decided to make the Viet Nam war the big issue here. I want him to deal with the fall-out. Heh-heh-heh.

This is a lot more serious than one man's word against another. There are hundreds of veterans who have been angry with Kerry for decades, and are finally speaking up now that Kerry's running for president. Here's a link to a letter that was sent to John Kerry. It was signed by TWO HUNDRED FIFTY-FOUR veterans!! (it's the second letter on this page) http://swift1.he.net/~swiftvet/index.php?topic=Letter
