Kerry lied to get purple heart?

The records should be able to shed some light on this if Kerry chooses to open them to the public.

'Larry Thurlow, the skipper of a boat trailing Kerry's, says in the book that he saw Kerry suffer a buttocks wound earlier that day in 1969 when he was hit by fragments from his own grenade while trying to destroy a Viet Cong rice cache.

"He dishonestly transferred the time and cause of the injury to coincide with the action later in the day and claimed that the cause of the injury was the mine exploding during the action," the book claims.

In Kerry's version of the incident, he says a mine struck his swift boat - wounding him in the buttocks and arm.

Kerry maintains he braved enemy fire from both shores to race to the bow of the boat and pluck Rassman, who had fallen overboard, out of the water.

But, the book says, "Many participants in the incident state that neither weapons fire nor a mine explosion occurred near Kerry during the incident.

"Unless one believes in the amazing coincidence that Kerry got two wounds in the same place on the same day, he lied to get the Purple Heart," the authors say.

Rassman is backing Kerry's presidential candidacy and he supports Kerry's version of the rescue.

I am happy for you and your family - I have a grandfather who is a War Veteran who is 89 -2 uncles who served and who are still alive, and a husband who also proudly serves.

"No, you said "we". "We" this and "we" that and "we" would fight again if George Bush asked us to." And yes I said WE because I am refering to those that I have spoken with - once again I am not trying to speak for everyone - just those that I have come in contact with.

<<That's just not true...let me tell you that I was watching that event, live on CSpan, when it happened. Jim Rassmann clearly said he was blown overboard. And John Kerry said, "man, we didn't know we'd lost you". They hadn't spoken about that event in 35 years.>>

So when I point out the failures of Republicans, which includes fighting much of the legislation that is now in the Patriot Act, we suddenly have to look forward.

I will always believe in my heart of hearts that partisanship caused 9/11. If we had been focused on bin laden, instead of Clinton's body parts, we could have accomplished alot. The Republican smear machine against Clinton is exactly the same as the one against Kerry today. It is harming our country and it needs to stop. We ought to be able to talk about the different choices we have in everything from education to global trade to environment to security, without having these disgusting smear campaigns overshadow the issues. And, by the way, a smear campaign based on not one shred of documented evidence is different than actual military paperwork that DOES show gaps in Bush's service record. His service record, NOT his "makeup work" record. Which doesn't really matter because John Kerry dropped it months ago.

<< I also know that the spouses that I have spoken with also plan to vote Bush, now I am sure that there are plenty of Kerry supporters and when I meet one in the military I will let you know. >>

I understand that the military lacks diversity when it comes to cultural/social/politcal views. Perhaps an

Sounds like a plan - maybe that can be part of the 40,000 that the military will be increased by. Oh yeah - who is going to pay for those 40,000 plus members that will be added - you betcha - the tax payers. Now will that be a realistic goal to achieve if Kerry takes office? Will the American people go for higher taxes? Me as a tax payer I know that I would not want to be paying more.

How is it even possible that Bush supporters can gloss over the Starting Of A War under false pretenses - (I do not believe any other president would have bombed Iraq under the same circumstances - only GWB could have been so stupid) and yet 30 years after John Kerry receives a purple heart they're tearing him to shreds, insisting he didn't deserve it.

Is it just me or do the Bush supporters have a very odd sense of proportion?

You rail against Kerry and the Democrats for decreasing the military. Yet when you discover Kerry wants to increase the military and Rumsfeld wants to decrease you do a u-turn.

If you notice I was not pointed about that remark - that also goes for Kerry. But the main sticking point with that is - Kerry lied. Bush has admitted that he did not make the best decision, that he was going by what his people tell him. Bush was not gathering the information that led him to his decision - other agencies were feeding it to him - like the FBI, CIA, etc. He made the choice that he thought was best at the time. Do we all make wise choices? No. Does the righteous person stand up and say they made a mistake or could have done it differently? Yes. Do liars admit to their lies? No. They keep embellishing and adding layer after layer. When you are caught you should come clean. Maybe if Clinton would have admitted his wrongdoing right off then maybe Republicans would not have had to keep harping on it. It all comes down to moral mettle - what we are made up of on the inside - the part that only we are intimately familiar with. Wrongs do happen - every day, every hour - how we handle them shows what we are made of.
