Will terrorists try to disrupt election?

There have been rumours that Al-Qaeda or some other group of Muslim terrorists will attempt to disrupt U.S. elections by doing a terrorist act in the U.S. right before the election.

It would be easy enough for them to do if they really wanted to, there are several million Muslims living in the U.S., the terrorists could easily hide in U.S. Muslim communities, much as they did before 9/11. And we have very poorly controlled borders and coasts, terrorists could sneak into the U.S. as well.

Do you believe that Muslim terrorists will, for whatever absurd reason, attempt to disrupt our U.S. elections?

I getting more skeptical on the whole terror alerts and warnings. I live and work close to DC, so we're in Code Orange. This morning on the radio I heard what you just wrote AND it was mentioned that they might try to assassinate a high level political official in the US or Europe. I'm so skeptical that my first thought was - this will be how they justify police action against protestors in NY for the Republican National Convention.

It's possible, but it won't happen. Think about the actual mechanics of the election. How many places are there to vote in most towns and cities. We don't have one national election. We have thousands of local elections, in which voters also vote for national candidates. I'm really hard pressed to think of anything more decentralized than an election.

I've heard that NYC Police & Firefighters Unions are threatening to strike during the RNC.

With the "success" of affecting Spain's election, I wouldn't be surprised if the terrorists are giving serious thought to hitting the US in some major way before our Nov. election.

The terrorists won't try to disrupt the election process. They'll try to use an attack to influence the voters in the U.S., like they did successfully in Spain. They're probably hoping that an attack will scare Americans into voting for a candidate who is more likely to give the terrorists what they want.

Would you really want to be elected like that, knowing that you are the "choice of the terrorists?"

I'm sure they'll try something. Whatever happens, you can be sure the media will have a fun time with it and use it to get what they want.

I think the better question is would we really want to elect someone that the terrorists like?

For your theory to be correct, one would have to assume that the majority of Spaniards supported the previous
