BUCHANAN: OK. All right.
Let‘s bring—Ted Sampley, go ahead.Â
SAMPLEY: Well, as far as journalistic standards, all you have got is go do is go back to the year 2000 to “The Boston Globe.â€Â And you will find that Kerry‘s crew—this is when the first issue of Kerry committing a war crime by shooting a Viet Cong that had already been hit by an M-60 machine gun and then twin 50s, .50-calibers—his crew told a different story back then. And now they have changed it to fit the way Kerry wants the story go. So that‘s journalistic standards. Go there.Â
BUCHANAN:Â What did they say?
(CROSSTALK)
O‘DONNELL: Ted, after you were convicted of assault and battery on a Senator McCain staffer and you said that Senator McCain was a member of the KGB, is there anything about that that you would like to retract to show us what standards you want to use today?
SAMPLEY:Â If you would like to invite me on this show to talk about
John McCain, let‘s do it. I can back everything I say about
(CROSSTALK)
O‘DONNELL: We have to talk about you. When you come forward to criticize someone else, we then have to talk about you.Â
(CROSSTALK)
O‘DONNELL: You said John McCain was brainwashed and is a “Manchurian Candidate†and is an agent of another government. That‘s who we now have. That‘s who we are sharing this broadcast with right now. You‘ve said those things, haven‘t you?
SAMPLEY: Let‘s ask about John Kerry in Kansas in 1971 when he participated—or his organization participated in a plot or discussion of a plot to kill U.S. senators. That was in the past.

Is this man a professional smear merchant for Bush or is it just an amazing coincidence that he's a veteran willing to publicly denounce chickenhawk Bush's decorated opponents in two successive campaigns?
Sort of taken aback, I googled Sampley today and came across John McCain's harsh condemnation of him:
Statement of Senator John McCain:
"I strongly caution reporters who may be contacted by or are interested in Mr. Ted Sampley and the various organizations he claims to represent, and his opinions on the subject of Senator Kerry, or any subject for that matter, to investigate thoroughly Mr. Sampley's background and history of spreading outrageous slander and other disreputable behavior before inadvertently lending him or his allegations any credibility.
I am well familiar with Mr. Sampley, and I know him to be one of the most despicable people I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Â I consider him a fraud who preys on the hopes of family members of missing servicemen for his own profit. Â He is dishonorable, an enemy of the truth, and despite his claims, he does not speak for or represent the views of all but a few veterans. Â The many veterans I know would think it a disgrace to be considered a comrade or supporter of Ted Sampley."

But Saigon fell in April 1975, Bush got out in Oct 1973, his service was supposed to extend to May 1974. That wasn't after VietNam, that was during VietNam, there was another 18 months before the war was over.
< Once more. Bush didn't take his physical because he wasn't flying anymore because he already had more flight time than he needed. He was transfered to a unit that was a 'holding tank' for people who had met their commitment and so were not active anymore, but were still on the books while they were waiting for the time on their contracts to expire. He asked for & got early release like tens of thousands at that time because after Vietnam, the military had to decrease their numbers substantially. >
"Mission Accomplished! Mission Accomplished!"
Bush is not making his National Guard service the centerpiece of his campaign. Kerry, on the other hand, is making his Vietnam service the centerpiece of his. When was the last time you heard Kerry or anyone else talking about Kerry get through a speech without mentioning that he served in Vietnam. Kerry seems to think that we should vote for him primarily because he spent four months in Vietnam, so that makes his service a legitimate subject of scrutiny and debate. If he wasn't running on his Vietnam record, nobody would care about it - just like most people could care less about Bush's National Guard record. Bush is being scrutinized and put under the microscope for the things that he's running on - his last 3 1/2 years as president.
I find it interesting that many of the same people who are so critical of Bush's National Guard service had no problem at all voting twice for someone who was a Vietnam draft-dodger.
If Bush can't find anything better to run on than that - he must have a pathetic record to run on (oh, that's right - he does.)
Bush was transferred to a non-active unit because he had exceeded his flight ours and had also put in all his on-base time to fulfill his contract.

<<The only reason I care about Bush's NG record is because Bush has made his low-class and disgusting smear of Kerry's service to the United States of America during the Vietnam War, in which he fought for our country, and was wounded for our country, the centerpiece of The Bush-Chewey campaign. >>
Bush has done nothing of the kind. He has been respectful of Kerry's service and has distanced himself from the Swiftboat ad.

Bush has not made it an issue, the men who served with Kerry have. Why do you believe that other men who have served in Vietnam have no right to speak up about their opinions of Kerry's service?

"Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia story doesn't appear in the official biography of his war years, Tour of Duty, by Douglas Brinkley. According to that book, Kerry spent Christmas of that year at Sa Dec, more than 50 miles from Cambodia. (Just how far away can a site or a boat be from a border and still be considered "near" Cambodia?)"
Truthfully I don't really like the idea of questioning the record of someone who volunteered to serve, but there are many in this country, our veterans in particular, for whom this issue is absolutely critical. In any case, if Kerry is being dishonest about his record, well, that does tell me something about his character. It wouldn't chage my vote if I were undecided, but it's part of the total picture I think.
