This is from Bush's own book. Can someone prove he ever ASKED for Nam duty?

Didn't someone here on the board tell me recently that Bush had logged sufficient flying hours he didn't need to fly anymore, & that's why you claimed it was OK to skip the physical & quit flying? Gee, couldn't he have taken his physical, kept flying, & gone to Nam???

On page 34 of A Charge to Keep, Mr. Bush claims that, after learning to fly the F-102 fighter jet, he was turned down for Vietnam duty because "had not logged enough flight hours" to qualify for a combat assignment.

Bush joined a unit that was on duty in Vietnam. He was on full time active duty for a year while he was being trained and expecting to go to Vietnam when that was finished. During that time, his unit was reassigned to it's home base.

Later, the AF was looking for individual pilots to go to Vietnam, not whole units.

It totally fits with Bush's personality that he would only go to Vietnam if he was guaranteed to be a "top gun." The argument that he was trying to get to Vietnam to serve his country, but was twarted at every turn really rings hollow. There are plenty of ways he could have gone to the warzone if he was serious about serving.

So you're cool with the fact that his public service, whether in the military or in politics is never actually about service but instead is all about massaging his massive ego? His thinking seems to have been, "I'll join the military, as long as I get the coolest job." ("I'll go into politics, but I want to be either Governor, or President!") Never mind that he failed his pilot's aptitude test. He scored a 25 out of 100. Just to put into perspective how bad that is...he scored a 65 on "Verbal Aptitude" and even you've posted that he has some kind of an impairment in that department.

I dont think he wanted to go to VietNam, which is why he flew a specific type of plane which was being removed from active duty while he flew it for the ANG.

He was turned down for flight duty in VietNam for precisely that reason. He had not logged enough flight time in the new fighter (the F-4 I think....please correct me if I am wrong), which was replacing the F-104 that he flew in the ANG.

I personally think that he did not take the physical because there may have been foreing chemcials found in his blood, but that is 100% pure speculation on my part.

I agree with your 'speculation' given that is this the type of man we want running our country? As a National Guard parent the right to pick to ones assignment is not an optional to anyone I know; why him? If my child refused the physical we all know what would happen.

Well, lets remember that he is the son of George HW Bush, and like many other children of influence, he used his influential contacts to get him the cushy assignment.

With regards to my speculation, since he is an admitted alcoholic, who has been recovering for several years, I personally do not have a problem with it, but then again, I have dealt with that issue personally as my family has a history of it, so I could have a thicker skin to it.
