"The Kerry campaign calls on a publisher to 'withdraw book' written by group of veterans, claiming veterans are lying about Kerry's service in Vietnam and operating as a front organization for Bush. Kerry campaign has told Salon.com that the publisher of UNFIT FOR COMMAND is 'retailing a hoax'... 'No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them,' Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton tells the online mag... Developing... "

"For some people party loyalty is so important it trumps a man's character. "

Couldn't agree more. There's a Republican in my office that is the poster child for the above. He chose to move into a bad area of DC. He built a fence around his property, that the neighborhood kids are starting to write on - "Joanie was here". He's told them to stop. Finally he's put in a surveillance camera to catch them and turn them into the police. OK, so far a bit extreme, but still within the law.

Then after he turns them in, he's going to find out where they live and report to the police that they're selling drugs out of their houses in hopes that they'll get arrested or at least move. He represents the Bush campaign to a "T". Lie to get what you want, screw "the others" (his words).

Sounds like Michael Meehan could use a course in military chain of command...President Bush has no authority to tell these veterans to stop talking. And until we achieve a Fascist state, no president ever will. Mr Meehan could obviouly use a course in the Bill of Rights as well.

It seems Kerry forgot about the book "Winter Soldier" which he co-authored which itself was rife with falsehoods. According to the Viet Cong generals, it was quite handy as one of their torture tools, that of demoralizing American POWs.

But...but...if Kerry claims it to be so, it MUST be the truth! BTW, don't you KNOW that Kerry served in Viet Nam?

I think you are missing the point Kerry was making 30 years ago. He didn't exclude himself from war crimes so her was not smearing anyone. He was speaking out against a war not the soldiers.
