What will you do if Bush wins?
| Fri, 08-20-2004 - 12:02pm |
I would like to know what you all will do if Bush wins? I don't know if I can handle another 4 years. Any ideas of how to reclaim our country and restore democracy and freedom? I'm worried that another 4 years will increase the authoritariansm and absolute power that Bush has come to claim and further trample on our constitution and individual liberties. I'm truly frightened.

I think you are misrepresenting Bush's comments-but I am really too tired right now to go searching for the exact quote so maybe tomorrow. No,Reagan did not call for a constitutional amendment-fact is, it simply wasn't an issue then. I don't think anyone ever imagined duting the eighties that homosexuals would be on the verge of legally marrying anytime soon. Just for the record, I support legal same sex marriage, but that's another can of worms that it's too late to open. The problem is, a lot of people's views on gay marriage have to do with morality and stability of the family unit, etc. Though I disagree with them, I don't believe that most people base their opposition to gay marriage solely in their specific religious beliefs. And I really don't think Bush intentionally uses his religious beliefs to divide-he believes what he believes, whatever the political consequences.
How could that be since we are hardly FINE now.
First, like it or not, a womans body is her own, and if she was raped, or if carrying a baby to term threatens her own life, she should be allowed of her own free will to choose an abortion. I have noticed you keep avoiding the key and central part to this discussion which is the very real fact that God according to biblical teachings gives each of us free will and choice. You are pro-life, and no one is trying to take that choice away from you. Seriously, in China for instance they actually have a limit on how many children you can bring into this world....how would you feel about forced sterilization after you had two kids? Like it or not, the pro-life's position would lead our nation down that very road where our government would have no choice but to put limits on how many kids a family could legally have. Is that what you really want?
Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child...guessing here that in your anger and rush to post you missed the part of my post that stated we cannot have kids. In fact, due to my wife's female issues, all too familiar here with the emotional trauma of miscarriages, and know intimately the pain of wanting a child you can never have. Yet, as I said, you seemed to have skipped over that part of my post, which leads me to seriously question your compassion for your fellow human beings, as otherwise you would not have so callously tossed the impending birth of your child into my face like that.
You attempted trick of taking the planning back ten years does not hold water....Bush is and should be condemned on the August 6th Presidential Daily Briefing, which stands alone as testimony and proof that he miscalculated and missed the opportunity to have stopped and/or mitigated the sad tragedy of 9/11. The man is and will always be unfit to hold the office of President of the United States of America, and the very real truth is, that the majority of American voters knew that in 2,000.
Christians and Catholics...Lets start with this. The Catholic Pope has in no minced words made it abundantly clear that he is against legalizing of gay marriages. Curious, where was he when it became abundantly clear that there was wide spread sexual abuse of boys by Catholic priests. Can you explain why he tried to hush the whole thing up, can you explain why he and his bishops not only tried to hush it up, but routinely hid the perpetrators of this abuse by sending them to new congregations where they could continue their abuses on a new flock of children? Yes, that is a fact, and it for instance has been proven that the Pope himself was well aware of Law's sick and twisted fetishes, as well as his multiple abuses of children. Divorce is supposedly reason in the Catholic Church too keep you from being married a second time in the church...so, to get around this little sticky wicket, you can run to your priest and buy an annulment....sure, that is some serious moral fiber for Christians to mull over. Annulments have turned into a multi-million dollar a year industry in the Catholic Church. Oh, in case I forget, care to discuss the Pope and Catholic churches ignoring of the extermination of the Jews during the Holocaust, or did you conveniently miss the Pope's apology on that little moral wasps nest?
Glad you were warned not to count on Social Security in your old age...but, if we cannot count on it, then why are we being forced to contribute almost seven percent of our gross pay into it on a weekly basis for our entire working life? I mean, if it is not going to be there for us, why should we be forced to contribute to it. At an average of over $5,000 a year for the past 30 years here, with a matching amount from my employer, I should have a base amount in the system of about 90,000...now, I can assure you that if that money had been invested properly during that time, I would have a serious retirement nest egg by now. Curious, is it your position that I should simply be happy in gifting that large sum of money over so that others can benefits from generosity?
As to your claim I am hijacking this thread...NEWSFLASH...it was started out by a Kerry supporter who was expressing her fears should Bush get elected for four more years. So, with that reality, how can I as a Kerry supporter be accused of being off topic and hijacking the thread? Maybe you should spend less time typing fast, and more time thinking.
