What will you do if Bush wins?
| Fri, 08-20-2004 - 12:02pm |
I would like to know what you all will do if Bush wins? I don't know if I can handle another 4 years. Any ideas of how to reclaim our country and restore democracy and freedom? I'm worried that another 4 years will increase the authoritariansm and absolute power that Bush has come to claim and further trample on our constitution and individual liberties. I'm truly frightened.

If I made the guess that you are middle-income, would I be correct? So, do you not know anyone who is poor? I graduated with a Masters, started my first entry level no-experience job making more money than I dreamed, and plan to make more, but I know poor people. My "Maamaw", is from the Southern, chicken farming area of my home state Arkansas. People on late night comedy or reality shows, well, anyone I'm sure would love to make fun of her. I have a nice car, but I occasionally take public transit and wash my clothes at the laundromat--just to be next to someone different. I don't know what your spriritual beliefs are, but in boardrooms and conferences, around the BMW driving freshmen at SMU, you do not feel the strength of the angels. They do not frequent the corners of our world that to us are obvious. They are on that bus with old people, freezing in the cold with angry alcoholics, and they stay up late with abandoned mothers at the laundromat who are moving on. You must judge a person, each and every one, by their spirit. Fat women eating twinkies I find often have great spirits, and if you're lucky, hey they might just say a little prayer for you! ;)
I was poor all my life. So, no, your wrong about me. We get by but sacrifice a lot so I can stay home with my daughter and baby on the way. I have a degree and I am studying for my real estate license. Hopefully the women buying 12 (and i counted) boxes of twinkies and 4 gallons of punch and a carton of cigarettes with her food stamps did say a prayer for me. I know I said a prayer for her.
So you believe in the old trickle down economic theory? PULLLEEESE!!!
I think your own grasp is a bit weak.

You seem to have some serious issues with those people living in your area that are on the welfare rolls. Well, a little bit of a wake up call for you here. Welfare as a part of the entire Federal Budgets accounts for LESS than 2 percent of allocated Federal Funds, and yes this includes such programs as WIC and Foodstamps. On the other hand, the Republicans have over time passed various forms of Corporate Welfare (such as the program that actually PAYS American companies to out source our American manufacturing base to foriegn third world countries) that actually accumulate for 6-7 percent of our Federal Budget. In short, in the big picture of life, the entire Welfare program does not actually account for that much of the big picture. Now, even with your seemingly limited ability to use cool, calm collected reasoning, I would assume could agree that not all those recieving welfare in its various forms are mooches, leachs and scum bags out for a free ride on the hard working backs of the working class?
Nation wide for the sake of generousity I shall give you 20 percent of those on welfare are in some fashion abusing the system, though I would guess that the percentage is actually far lower than the 1/5 of the whole I am allowing in this example. Now, we already know that LESS that 2 cents out of every dollar gets spent for the ENTIRE National welfare program. That means worst case scenerio that we are looking at 2/5th of one penny for every dollar spent on welfare is being misappropriated. (I'm sorry, you do understand fractions don't you?)You are going to tell me here, that one who professes to be so Christian, so generous is going to hold such anger, bitterness and animosity towards someone less fortunate than yourself over 2/5ths of a penny?
You seem upset over my stand on illegal aliens...for starters, Democrat and Republican alike, one point both parties can agree on is that our pourous borders need to be shored up, and that the mass flood of illegal immigrants needs to be stopped. Yet, NOTHING of any substance has or is currently being done to address this issue. Further more, our available data streams indicate a minimum of 14-15 illegal aliens are currently living and working in the United States. Most of these people are working illegally under the table, and further more have establishing a pricing structure for certain work (because they do not have to pay taxes if working under the table) that puts legal American workers at a disadvantage when it comes to competively bidding for the same kinds of work in a high illegal alien density area. In my area for instance construction, house/office cleaning and landscaping leap quickly to mind. If you were to bother actually looking at statistics, you would know that behind Texas and California, the New York/New Jersey area that is considered the immediate suburbs of New York City is actually third on the list in density populations of illegal immigrants. Said millions represent better than five percent of the total population of America...now, since these people are using various public services paid for by Federal Tax dollars, but not actually contributing through payment of Federal Income taxes, this has a serious two fold effect, both effects of a negative nature.
A)Reason seems that a population so large that it represents more than five percent
of our population base, but is paying no Federal taxes means the rest of us are
having to make up the difference. Lets say for example that only five million of
this 14 million are actually working, and each of them if being honest law abiding
American tax payers were paying $4,000 a year in Federal Taxes...I think a very low
final tax on a Federal level. Unless my math is off, that is 20 BILLION dollars a
year in lost Federal Tax revenues....that is not small laughing matter.
B) These same people when hurt who do not have insurance go into emergency rooms
with false names and ID's and get taken care of, but the bills do not get paid. The
children that these people have go to our schools but do not actually contribute
to support said schools. Did you know most illegals are also driving illegal with
phooney licenses, and when they have accident, WHOOPS, no insurance so we end up
having to pay for our repairs out of our own pockets...sure, the insurance company
foots the bill, but you can bet they get it back by increasing premiums. All these
things put a very serious drain on our economy, and unfairly usurp social services
intended for those who are legally working within and supporting the system. I can
assure you, that these illegals are a FAR BIGGER problem than those welfare scanks
you are so worried about that are costing tax payers 2/5 of a penny out of every
dollar spent.
Curious....are you really going to tell me you agree with the Republican Party Position that illegal aliens should be allowed to work in our country for 1 1/2 years, and if they pay into the social security program during that period be allowed to collect retirement from the system even though we ourselves as legal Americans are required to pay into the system for a period of TEN YEARS before we have that same legal right?
You see, you read and see what you want to see, you for the most part do not and have not actually discussed the very valid points I have made, but instead want to attack me on a person level painting me out as some nasty, dark tempered unhappy soul...shrug, that is your choice, but I would suggest you might actually be far better served spending that energy on properly educating yourself about the issues so that you can truly make an intelligent choice come this November, instead of relying on 30 second sound bites filled with lies and propaganda.
