What will you do if Bush wins?

I would like to know what you all will do if Bush wins? I don't know if I can handle another 4 years. Any ideas of how to reclaim our country and restore democracy and freedom? I'm worried that another 4 years will increase the authoritariansm and absolute power that Bush has come to claim and further trample on our constitution and individual liberties. I'm truly frightened.

Personally, seeing as both my wife and I are bisexual, do not see the problem some have with GBL either. But then, I did already point out that I embrace alternative lifestyles and life choices, and even dabble in certain belief systems that are not mainstream...just not the sprinkle holy water and be saved Baptist/Catholic type here myself.

I hope this goes out to everyone, Dems and Reps alike.

I think you should all be as well informed as possible. The most reliable information comes from those who are relatively neutral--unaffiliated at least in their jobs--such as Paul Krugman, an economist. He helps slog through the morass of policies to help you understand the numbers behind the policies. Look at editorial pages in several papers.

It is more than about ideologies and differences. I am incredibly surprised any of you feel safer today. You should not. NO one can protect us; we can become more aware and protect ourselves, but do not fool yourselves and believe that one man in one office can make us safe. Yes, policies, but realistically, we would be far safer and not as fiscally responsible if we still had a semblance of a coalition of forces to help us in Iraq. I know of what I speak: I work for the Navy, and I have seen the casualties first hand. We have lost not only 1000 people, but we have 6 times that many wounded, many of whom we must now care for for the rest of their lives. These are not scratches and bites, my friends. They are missing limbs, eyes, extremities, and likely, (hardest of all to restore) peace of mind.

All of you believe very easily what you read: I do, too. In some respects, we need to. We need to think the truth IS out there, somewhere. I lived in DC for many years, and this I know to be true of politics and politicians: most of them, like any of us, are in it for themselves. It's their job, we all want our jobs, I can't blame them. Many of them do a good job anyway, in the process; their interests and ours are, after all, similar.

What I do not think you should believe is that George Bush cares about anyone but himself. I'll say this for John Kerry, he has SERVED, in the service and in the Senate.(Don't get me started: THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE CAN FALSIFY THEIR OWN PAPERWORK FOR A MEDAL. Don't insult the military by thinking things like that happen.) He was raised with a sense of moral responsibility; his service in Vietnam is testament to that. Those of you who were alive back then know: a lot of people went to Canada. The fact that Kerry went at all speaks VOLUMES.

Look carefully at George Bush the man: can you truly see something other than someone raised in privilege, not having to pay for any of his own mistakes? He was groomed for this job and has performed for his groomers admirably. Campaigning is what he does best. But : Has he visited any countries on diplomatic missions lately? What happened to all that good will the world gave us freely after 9/11? Wouldn't we all be "safer" if we had our allies to help us? Nevermind that it happened on HIS watch. Do you think for a moment, if Al Gore had been able to take his legitimate office, that the Republicans would let anyone forget that this disaster occurred on Democratic watch? But everyone is being so kind and not mentioning it. Do you think if Bill Clinton's family had been chummy with the Bin Ladens and that, after 9/11, the Republicans would have swept his allowing them to leave the country under the proverbial rug? No.

It is not just who you elect president. I saw that, living in and around the government. It is who they bring with them. For this to be a true democracy, you have to bring EVERYONE into the circle of power. I have never seen an administration run amok as this one has; they have literally helped themselves to every spoil in sight; environmental policies have been set back years; the economy is in dire straits, the deficit is unfathomable, and everyone seems to think all this is OKAY. Wait until you want to go camp in a National Park. Or have to go through what we went through in California with the "energy crisis" 2-3 years ago. YOU HAVE NO IDEA. Small businesses went out in scores; their energy bills did not triple, but were 6 times as high. Now we find out that the market was fixed. I don't need to tell you how many lives were affected by Enron.

Please, it's not just George Bush. It's those around him who are robbing us blind. Look at the economic policies, read beyond what either party tells you is happening. Can't you see it? There's more unemployment, lower salaries, higher housing prices--look at the Census Bureau numbers, see for yourself who's buying, how much they cost. Statistics can be skewed in a myriad of ways.

Here's my bias: I believe Republican rhetoric is based in fear. Fear of difference, fear of change, and most of that locates in a fear of not having enough. They appeal to the lowest common denominator in all of us. They want us to want the status quo, even though we have NO REAL idea of what that is! Carl Rove was hired to get Bush elected, and they don't care how he does it. It sounds as if he's done his job EXTREMELY well, as most of you believe that what he tells you is true. Do any of you know who he is or what he does? Please, look into it. I know you are thinking, compassionate human beings. You need to take a second look at who you're hiring for this job.

Wife is Pagan, I tend more towards a blend of Wiccan, Buddist precepts with a bit of Shinto tossed in for good measure, and blended nicely with a few things I embrace from my childhood days being raised Episcapalian.

I have a LOT of friends who are RECOVERING Catholics, so not surprising at all to me. I can tell you though...there is something bigger than us, but we have to allow ourselves to believe in it, have to allow ourselves to reach out to it, and bring it into our lives.

You seemed a little hostile in your response to nisa77... you maybe happy with your current president but that doesn't mean everyone else has to be. Bush HAS managed to secure more power for himself under the homeland securities act and that is a fact not propaganda, In fact I think he's secured more power in that act than any other president, don't quote me on that one but I'd be willing to investigate that. Not to mention he has the some of the ugliest presidental records in unemployment, homeownership, government spending, and programs geared at children and education... again numbers don't lie... he basically came in and undid everything Clinton did. And as far as his stand on 9/11... there are several other leaders in different countries that believe Bush is the worst thing that has ever happened to America in how he has choosen to deal with the rest of the world... this is coming from quotes not from interpetation. So if you are happy and content in the state of this country then more power to you but don't jump down the throats of others who are not... happy voting!
