Was just over on FOX website, and even by Bush standards, the Republicans have found a whole NEW LOW even for them:

Keyes: Cheney's Daughter a Sinner

Wednesday, September 01, 2004

NEW YORK — Illinois Republican Senate candidate Alan Keyes (search) labeled homosexuality "selfish hedonism" and said Vice President Dick Cheney's (search) lesbian daughter is a sinner.

The former talk show host who has made two unsuccessful runs for the White House made the comments Monday night in an interview with Sirius OutQ, a satellite radio station that provides programming aimed at gays and lesbians.

After saying homosexuality is "selfish hedonism," Keyes was asked if that made Mary Cheney (search) "a selfish hedonist."

"Of course she is," Keyes replied. "That goes by definition."

Liz Cheney (search), Mary's sister, refused to comment Wednesday during a televised interview.

"I guess I'm surprised, frankly, that you would even repeat the quote, and I'm not going to dignify it with a comment," she told the interviewer.

The Log Cabin Republicans (search), a gay and lesbian organization, denounced Keyes' remark.

"In a political career defined by failures, this is a new low for Alan Keyes," executive director Patrick Guerriero said in a statement Wednesday. "Attacking politician's children is beyond the pale, even for an extremist like Alan Keyes."

How is that a violation of TOS? I think Renee was refering to Alan Keyes as being the <<"radical wacko">> (and I agree totally!).

Generalizations (just to make a point here) are usually a bad idea, or at least give the impression that you're quite willing to blame all Republicans for the actions of just a few, something which is no more fair than a Bush supporter blaming all Democrats or liberals for the actions of some who share their political philosophy.

Now, if that's what you're after, be my guest. It's just not the best way to illicit honest, objective discussion of the issues you're noting.

Keyes in my opinion did step over a line here, but your characterization of all Republicans sharing the perspective that Keyes demonstrated is simply false and grossly unfair to a great many people representing a more moderate demographic within the Republican part.

I have to agree on this. The children are not running for office. Kerry and Bush should be the focal points.

Yes...blame the entire Republican party for the remarks of Alan Keyes.....

Makes sense to me.

It appears that those people that choose to do so are so blinded by their ideology that it doesnt really matter.

That explains why he never wins when he runs for office.

He shoots himself in the foot via his mouth.

ITA - I reported whren's blatant violation immediately after reading her post, then went on to read yours. Whren should resign.

Miffy does a much better job (her opinions seldom agree with mine, but she tries very hard to be fair - and I'm sure it's not always easy.)
