Yesterday, the Republicans Choosen canidate in Ill. to run for a national office told a reporter that Cheney's lesbian daughter was a sinner. A subject that has drawn some amount of national News coverage since Cheney stated last week that he differed with the President's opinion on a constitutional amendment. Now, I am not as everyone here knows, a fan of Cheney, or Bush, or for that matter the Republican Party, but I took my hat off to Cheney for making that point public, and in doing so honoring and respecting his daughter.
Tonight, I was watching the Republican Convention as many here were as well . At the conclusion of Cheney's speech his family (as is the custom) came up onto the stage to wave to the crowd before exiting. I noticed two very odd things: A) that his Lesbian daughter was not on the stage with the rest of the family, and B) that Cheney left the stage ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, not hardly bothering at all to acknowledge the crowd, or bask in the spotlight during his BIG MOMENT...after all, he did just accept the nomination to be the Vice Presidential running mate in the upcoming election.
So, break to the usual pundits discussing the speech and then they suddenly go down to a Whitehouse reporter who was out on the floor of the convention who passes along some very disturbing news....seems that Vice President Cheney's Lesbian daughter had remained up in the family box instead of going down to the stage with the rest of the family...the reason for this odd choice? Her attendance at the convention and visibility were GREATLY UPSETTING/disturbing too many of the delegates in attendance.
I'm sorry, election or not, that is just unforgivable from my perspective, and I just cannot square that with this supposed persona of the Compassionate Conservative that is being put out to the press by the Republican Party. I find that kind of intolerance on the part of Convention delegates deliberately hurtful, disrespectful, hateful, bigoted upon its face and descriminatory, and am wondering if it is just me, or do I have the right at this moment to feel the seething outrage that I do? I'm sorry, just find this so despicable, and right now, as much as I do not want them in the Whitehouse, my heart does ache for VP Cheney, his wife and their beautiful daughter.

The episode the night before was bad enough with Keynes statement that all gays were sinners, then specifically stating when asked that Vice President Cheney's daughter of course was a sinner was bad enough, and this thing has probably been building since, but I find it repugnant, and do not see how any supposed Christian with true Christian values could continue to support the Republican party after this.
Cheney could have had his daughter on stage with him if he had insisted. It would have done damage to the image the Reps want to portray but I would have respected him more for doing it.
Gosh..I don't like Cheney but I really, really feel bad for his daughter. :-( I can only imagine how it feels to like be on the outside looking in. I guess she is probably used to it but that would really hurt my feelings. If I were in Cheney's shoes I would have insisted that all of my family be there to share that moment with me.
