Republicans Bigoted and Full of Hate?

Sure the title got your attention, and think the subject matter is deserving of no less.

Yesterday, the Republicans Choosen canidate in Ill. to run for a national office told a reporter that Cheney's lesbian daughter was a sinner. A subject that has drawn some amount of national News coverage since Cheney stated last week that he differed with the President's opinion on a constitutional amendment. Now, I am not as everyone here knows, a fan of Cheney, or Bush, or for that matter the Republican Party, but I took my hat off to Cheney for making that point public, and in doing so honoring and respecting his daughter.

Tonight, I was watching the Republican Convention as many here were as well . At the conclusion of Cheney's speech his family (as is the custom) came up onto the stage to wave to the crowd before exiting. I noticed two very odd things: A) that his Lesbian daughter was not on the stage with the rest of the family, and B) that Cheney left the stage ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, not hardly bothering at all to acknowledge the crowd, or bask in the spotlight during his BIG MOMENT...after all, he did just accept the nomination to be the Vice Presidential running mate in the upcoming election.

So, break to the usual pundits discussing the speech and then they suddenly go down to a Whitehouse reporter who was out on the floor of the convention who passes along some very disturbing news....seems that Vice President Cheney's Lesbian daughter had remained up in the family box instead of going down to the stage with the rest of the family...the reason for this odd choice? Her attendance at the convention and visibility were GREATLY UPSETTING/disturbing too many of the delegates in attendance.

I'm sorry, election or not, that is just unforgivable from my perspective, and I just cannot square that with this supposed persona of the Compassionate Conservative that is being put out to the press by the Republican Party. I find that kind of intolerance on the part of Convention delegates deliberately hurtful, disrespectful, hateful, bigoted upon its face and descriminatory, and am wondering if it is just me, or do I have the right at this moment to feel the seething outrage that I do? I'm sorry, just find this so despicable, and right now, as much as I do not want them in the Whitehouse, my heart does ache for VP Cheney, his wife and their beautiful daughter.

Do you suppose that he knew ahead of time that she would not being participating on stage? Or is that why he ran out of there so quickly?

I think it's sad the Reps couldn't be so open-minded (like the Bush twins claim they are) and accepting of lesbian's and gay's to where Cheney's daughter couldn't be there to support her father in his moment. Maybe they were afraid of having her up there cause of what people would have said or their reaction to seeing her now they know she is a lesbian. Do you think he's for her and being a lesbian or just avoids it? At least she was still there supporting her father though. XOXO.

I do not know that the answer to that, but can tell you what I believe...I noticed his wife when she first came up on stage gave him a hug and seem to speak very briefly to him, and then the rest of the family with his grand kids came on stage, and then he literally gathered them all together and seemed to whisk them off stage, so think it came as news to him immediately after the speech.

The episode the night before was bad enough with Keynes statement that all gays were sinners, then specifically stating when asked that Vice President Cheney's daughter of course was a sinner was bad enough, and this thing has probably been building since, but I find it repugnant, and do not see how any supposed Christian with true Christian values could continue to support the Republican party after this.

Wow. How harsh! I wonder what Cheney thinks of everything now cause of his daughter. :\ It isn't anybody's place to judge others no matter what the Bible says. The Bible also talks about how you shouldn't judge cause you would be judge the same if not more cause of your judgment on people. I do feel bad for Cheney for having to hear that cause of his daughter. :( XOXO.

Cheney could have had his daughter on stage with him if he had insisted. It would have done damage to the image the Reps want to portray but I would have respected him more for doing it.

Gosh..I don't like Cheney but I really, really feel bad for his daughter. :-( I can only imagine how it feels to like be on the outside looking in. I guess she is probably used to it but that would really hurt my feelings. If I were in Cheney's shoes I would have insisted that all of my family be there to share that moment with me.

being part of these debate threads has really educated me about American politics. I spent a little time in the GOP Treehouse and was told to look at a site explaining Republican views. If anyone's interested in an English person's reaction to that site, it can be found here:

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-elpoliticsto&msg=3345.118

incidentally if anyone can direct me to a similar Democrat website it would be very appreciated

Not sure if you mean a completly different site than this but there is an "In The News" ivillage site that is more open minded/liberal than this board. Surprised you haven't had someone here already suggest it to you. You won't get the phoney welcome but you will find it a lot more friendly.

Most Democrats I've seen the past few years are mean-spirited, hate-filled, intolerant hypocrites who simply won't get over the fact that their candidate LOST in 2000. All the re-re-recounts are in and he STILL lost and the best they can do is tell us that the Electoral College failed because their candidate lost. The Associated Press (the "mythical" liberal media) fuels the fire by preaching hatred and intolerance for anyone who doesn't repeat their "Bush is worse than Hitler" drivel. To think I could have gotten away with protesting Clinton by defacing Stop signs and running into rush hour traffic to "protest" in the '90's....

Thank you, I'm starting to feel a little too liberal for this board, seem to be breaking out in rashes from God Is On Our Side and War is Right slogans - do you happen to have a link to the other board?
