ALL BUSH SUPPORTERS READ THIS

I blagged this from a War On Terror Ivillage board:

'In his memoirs, "A World Transformed," written five years ago, George Bush Sr. wrote the following to explain why he didn't go after Saddam Hussein at the end of the Gulf War.

"Trying to eliminate Saddam...would have incurred incalculable human

and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible.... We

would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq....

There was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of

our principles. Furthermore, we had been consciously trying to set a

pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in

and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations'

mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response

to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion

route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power

in a bitterly hostile land."

If only his son could read.'

I really don't know how to answer that because, like always, I have no clue what Bushey was talking about when he said that.

Great post Tracee. Bush is nothing more than a man he is not GOD. Terrorists hate the American government regardless of who is in office. It is sad that many believe that if Gore was in office, that he would not have gone after Osama. Perhaps he would have caught him in the process unlike Bush. But one thing is for sure, we wouldnt be in Iraq.

Well that is the first thing he has said that is the truth. It will and can never be won. This is not a perfect world, so there will always be someone out there who dislikes another's stance. All we can do is try to protect ourselves as we can and live our lives. Terrorism is not only from other countries, there are many here. Terrorists want us to change how we think, that could be said to many groups within the u.s. borders. What about the gangs in the inner city, who are slowly moving out of the city and into our suburbs? What about those people who feel abortion as wrong and bomb these clinics? There are all sorts of militias in the U.S. that hate our government. Are they any different? There is more than just al-quaida in this world, and there always will be.

Sorry lani if I made it look like I was addressing my question to you in particular. I meant it in a general way to anyone who could help my understanding.

Matt Lauer asked Bush about the war on terrorism and Bush said "I don't think you can win it."

I remember Bush saying before that he would win the war on terror.

Why did he change his mind?

Is he losing confidence?

It's okay. . .

I think I agree with what I think you're saying, and that is that people tend to be so hooked on how he is a "steadfast" leader but essentially, he has put us at the bulk head of a war that cannot be won.

Thanks for your reply lani.

What I’m saying is this.

People on this thread (and elsewhere) have been speculating what message electing Kerry would give to terrorists.

What message do these same speculators think Bush sent to terrorists when he told Matt Lauer on television

“I don’t think you can win it” ?????

"it" meaning the war on terror he's been advancing.

Since when has you're side worried about what message is being sent to Al Queda or dictators like Saddam?

"How many American heads are you prepared to watch being sawed off to the praises of your god?"

"Your God" This is such an inappropriate way to address someone who has no connection to terrorist activity whatsoever. What is your implication here?

The first key to wisdom is constant and frequent questioning, for by doubting we are led to question and by questioning we arrive at the truth.  -
